For those of you who have replaced OEM shocks...
Did they really help that much?? My 06 w/ 22k on it seems to "bounce" alot on the interstate. Whenever i hit a small bump the *** end just keeps on bouncing several times before it smooths back out (empty). It feels as if the shocks are "shot", but i can't hardly beleive they would be at only 22k?? Is this just a characteristic of the stock shocks or what?? Thanks for your input, and what shocks have you guys been putting on, and how much? Wanna get it fixed if it is as simple as replacing shocks, before spring as i put alot of miles on in the summer.
I run Rancho 9000 adjustables. I love them and they helped the ride and handling significantly over the junk stockers.
You are going to get a bunch of people in this thread tell you that Bilstein's are the way to go. Not knocking Bilstein at all...im sure they are great. But the adjustability of the Ranchos are a very nice feature. Some run Bilstein on the front and Rancho's on the rear.

I have the Bilstein 5100s, put them on (along with a leveling kit and 315s) at 17,000 miles. They seemed to make the truck slightly more responsive and smoother (I'm sure the tires helped the ride quality). At 20,000 miles I added air bags, and they made the most difference. The stability loaded and unloaded is great! I now have 26,000 miles on it, and I'm happy with the ride. I honestly was scared driving unloaded on washboard roads with the stock set-up, I always felt like the rear end was going to come around
. This set-up is very compairable to my '01, which had a leveling kit, 5100s, and 285 tires (no swaybar or air bags). I don't think you can go wrong with the Bilsteins or the Ranchos.

Will these shocks help with the washy washy bouncy bouncy feel when you hit a bump while towing????? Really don't want air bags. Trucks sits perfect under a load. Little higher than level in the rear.
My MX-6s will. They have firmed the truck up (no bouncy). You can still feel the bumps but it is by no means kidney jarring. When I tow my boat I just increased the firmness in the rear shocks by 2. I run on setting 2 of 6 for firmness all the way around when empty.

Yeah, the shocks are nice, but I'm going to put in a good word for my super spring overloads - they alone smoothed out the ride remarkably!
Of course I did them first, so can't say what the ranchos alone are like...

thanks for your input, sounds like i should pony up and replace the stock junkers. Would be nice if they put decent ones on to begin with, along w/ decent stereo/speaker, decent tires, etc., i'm beginning to realize why they are cheaper than ford/chevy. Sorry, i just used to drive fords and NEVER replaced anything on them, other than stuff that wore out, maybe a set of tires.

And the Ford comes with pretty close to the same thing we have stock with the 265s. As for suspension components, Ford is better than ours, ours is better than Chevy's...Then comes the stereo equipement that you were
over...the Infinity Package in the Dodges won the "best sound" portion of the big three competition over the Bose in the Chevy and the Mach in the Ford...I have it and think it sounds pretty darn good...just my $.02.Derek
