Test drove a Megacab today

I got a call from a salesman buddy of mine that they had their first Megacab delivered to the dealership just after lunch today.

Man.......that thing is like driving a Limo ! ! It's unbelieveable at the amount of room in the back seat area and when looking out the inside rearview mirror, it seems like your looking for 10' behind you just to see the rear window. The back doors on these things are huge as well, just like opening up a limo door. Laid the split back seats down and that area is big enough to set a tent up inside to do some camping.

Truck is the '06 megacab, charcoal grey 4x4 Cummins, auto. Drove really smooth and I was surprised at the short turning radius of such a long wheel base truck. Sticker price was not as bad as I thought it might be, $44,763.00 for the SLT. Did not like the chrome steel rims nor the material that the seats were made of, but otherwise it was a fun experience.

What I didn't like was what was printed on the window sticker.
3 yr - 36k miles bumper to bumper warranty
5 yr - 100k on Cummins engine.

Said nothing about extended drivetrain warranty, but the next line is copied and pasted from the DC website describing these trucks. So which is right?

*quote from website*
The all-new 2006 Dodge Ram Mega Cab is covered by a 7-year/70,000-mile Powertrain Limited Warranty. The Cummins Turbo Diesel engine is covered by a separate 7-year/100,000-mile warranty

Dodge finally makes a backseat the same size as the Ford! I like it...... price is a little to much for me though.

If your gonna make a cab configuration as big as the fords, the might as well price them like the Fords. Actually, 44K is pretty much par with all the Ford CC 4x4 that I drove. they generally MSRP'd for 42-46K.

I heard they had one on display at the MN State Fair. I forgot to head over to the Dodge booth to take a look.

After the fair closed, I saw an enclosed transporter from Michigan loading up a Dodge pickup. I wonder if that was the Megacab. They usually just bring in the vehicles from local dealers. They might have brought in the Megacab special since the fair started August 25th.

SLT with steel rims? seems cheesy. Aren't they just a bit TOO big? I for one can't see giving up 2 feet of bed to get more cab room, but it's just the three of us, so interior room is just fine in the QC.

To each his own I guess.

I guess the megacab is OK for some uses, but I think the quad cab is the perfect size for me. I get a usable rear seat without it being overly long like a Ford or Chevy. I just think the Dodge looks in proportion...

2.5" more year legroom than the ford, and 7.8" more than a quad cab.

I agree. The quad cab is just right as is. But I am glad the Mega is available for those who want or need it and have the money to get it.

Yeah for the big bucks you would think they would come with some nicer wheels.

I'm only 5'11" and I my knees hit the front seat when I sit in the back of a qc (with someone of decent height up front). Plus, it feels like you are sitting straight up. The back seat of a qc is fine for kids, but not good for an adult for any length of time. Especially when wearing gear (like going dirt bike riding, snowboarding, hunting, etc) which is when I am most likely to have a full back seat anyways.

Excuse me a minute while I wipe all the DrPepper off of my computer monitor.

The main reason I bought a Dodge (aside from the Cummins) was because they were priced so much better than their equivalent Ford and Chevy. It's a shame that they decided to jack the price up so much. I would NEVER pay that much for a truck...especially an ugly one.

My truck stickered at $45k. It all depends what you want on it. I look at the mega cab as just another option...
