Get-er-done

No doubt. This is a time saving mod by reducing fueling time significantly! I used to spend 20 minutes filling the tank aggravating the wife and anyone waiting to use the pump. Now I fill quickly and still have accurate quantity figures for economy calculations.

2nd best mod on the truck (timing sensor is #1). Had it done in about an hour and that included some BSing with a friend who stopped by and no air tools.

Only wish I had done it sooner.

Last night I looked at the fuel tank from the rear wheel well. The top radius of the tank is exposed and wonder if it could be pierced on the radius with sometype of self locking barb fitting that also can seal.

Added the vent kit to mine a few weeks ago. Good mod, well worth the time. If nothing else, just to know that your mileage numbers are correct. The hardest part is getting the front most fuel connector removed. Mine was turned just enough that I couldn't fit my finger around the barbed fitting to close the release tabs. I tried wrapping a zip tie around it, fishing line, etc. with no luck. After about an hour, my neighbor stopped by and we were able to get to it with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Just run the tank down until your DTE reads 50 miles or below. I was a little concerned about how much fuel would be left in the tank, but it was no big deal.

Also, I have the 51" Donaldson muffler so getting to the front tank strap bolt was a challenge. There was no way to get to it by following the instructions. So I used a deep 15mm impact socket on an 8" long extension on a 1/2" socket wrench.

All this while entertaining my 2-year old twin boys as mom was at work.

How many gallons are you guys that did the mod able to pour now? I get the feeling that Dodge didn't really plan on the tank being "full" after reading this thread.

Maybe I'm wrong but this guy says he put 38 gallons in a 34 gallon tank (per Dodge's spec) right?

About a year ago I put 38.5 gallons in the 35 gallon tank. I didnt check the link but the crappy filling has to do with a law saying that there needs to be 10% (number from memory but close) expansion in the fuel tank. This way if ya fill up in the cold morning and it hits a hundred degrees the expansion doesnt cause the fuel to pour on the ground. Never had a problem with this and I fill here up to the rim every time on both my trucks.

D.K. is a stand up guy, and this kit he put together is great. Once you get the tank dropped, it's a piece of cake to do the mod. Just make sure you don't have a lot of fuel in the tank when you do it!!!! I regularly get an extra 4-5 gallons of fuel in the tank when I fill up now. And my mileage figures are darn near exact now because I can get the tank filled the same way every time!!!! Averaged 18.1mpg with a 50/50 combo of suburban empty and suburban towing my 5k work trailer!!!!! I'm gonna to the tone wheel mod when I can find the time. I'm in the middle of a house remodeling project, so time is hard to come by!!! Take the time and do it and you'll be glad you did later!!!!!

OK I have two noob questions here.

1. Is my 2005 lift pump in tank or the older style?

2. When I do my vent mod do I need to crack the injectors to get it going afterwards?

1. Don't know.

2. No. Just cycle the key on and off a few times and it will crank right up.

Filled my truck last night...120.00 for 2/3 of a tank of premium profit riddled diesel here in Canada

I added 14 liters after it clicked and it took me about 10-12 minutes and still could have added more.

Vent mod COMING UP!

For the members that have added the vent fix. What method does the brass fitting mount on the tank? Is there a backing locknut or does it self tap into the plastic? Also what size is the rubber hose coming from the new vent?

Scotty,
Git r done.....
