take a look?

i have been thinking about a bumper, i love the look of the alien patrol/ road armour style. but do to WAY TO MANY complaints about items payed for but never received i have chosen the side of caution.

any way i am going to fabricate a bumper for my 07. i am a jman welder with b pressure certification but pipe doesn't really do it for me, i have stuck with custom fabrication and done fairly well with this . i just can't justify $3500 for a tdk or fab four bumper and up here in canada that's what the few places that can get them want. i see them online for $1000 less but shipping tax and brokerage fees eat that up fast.

soo i need your help and in return once i have all the data i need i am going to do a cad in 3d then dissect a few joints to get an accurate layout in 2d so i can fab the bumper with the main body being one piece reducing the number of welds and use bends where ever possible. once complete and satisfied with the fit i will make the layout and plans public on this forum.

what i need are a few dimensions and a few detailed photos of the inside with out powder coating i have a few but they are all from the front and because of excessive grinding i can't see the joints.

i will start with the photos i have

regards Ryan.

Any more info would be great

thats the way i look at it too, i just cant see how they put such a high value on them. there is no way that there is more than $200 in material , powder coat would be $200 and there is no way they have more than 4 man hours in a bumper. seriously i just need one person who has 10 minutes to take 5-10 photos and maybe a half dozen messurements i will make my drawings public . i would go down to the local shop and take some pictures and what not myself but no one stocks them up here.calling all 06-09 3500 owners with a AP or RA bumper please and thank you.

I also looked at the Fab4, Road Armor, Iron Bull etc...... The cheapest one being $1300 and that was them running a special with reg price at $1600 + ship!
I found this one on Craigslist last THURSDAY! Paid $350 for it and it was ALMOST exactly what i was looking for. So using the wife's mentality on buying shoes that she does not need, i went ahead and purchased it and saved over $1000!
I did have to do some minor fab to it due to the fact that it came off a 2006 3500 and mine is a 2008 3/4 ton. The tabs on the bumper had to be extended 3" to reach my frame but no biggy!

Now, if you need measurements i can help just let me know what you need and i will do my best to get you info! I also do CAD so if you have a starting point with CAD i may be able to fill in the blanks.

Also, b/c my tow hooks had to be removed i welded some swivel rings to the bumper tabs. You can't see them in the pic but they are there!

Mike

Nice find.

I was thinking of modeling one out of cardboard and tape to make from all flat panels. I can mig or stick weld and sand smooth pretty well. Did some furniture recently and it came out good. I want the front receiver, a bull bar, factory fog lights, and light tabs. Nothing too fancy, but follow the body lines.

I never cared for the Laramie painted lower anyway. Makes for too much of one color.

Do the airbag sensors work ok with the custom bumpers?

while i will one day take credit for a bumper i cannot take credit for the ones in the photos i did not make them. just photos i found on line . here is a photo of the back side i found on line today looks to be the same bumper as other photo

it gives a good view of the heat marks, giving me a good idea of how many welds they used.

if you look at the bumpers they are really not that hard to make. heck the hardest part is making the bumper brackets since most of us dont have a plasma cutter. all the other stuff is doable with a metal cutting saw

it's not exactly what i wanted but i found this one for $800. it will have to be blasted and i am going to copy the design leaving out the bars. i will then cut the bars off, linex it and sell it local . a few pics... more to come in a few weeks, i will still share plans once complete with a few fabrication photos

Why would you cut the bars off and then sell it?

the reason i would cut the bars off is i think it might sell faster. the guy i bought this from has a 55oo with a service body. his truck was 140pds over so he decided to less the bumper. he had it listed for some time, i think the titan bars look ridonkulous and HUGE. IMO it would sell faster with no bars...
