Tailgate - how much weight

How much weight can I haul on the tail gate? - I want to haul the small Polaris RZR in my short bed.

It will fit - with the tail gate down

I think I read somewhere the limit is 300 pounds, but I may be wrong.

Don't let the RZR sit directly on the tailgate. Place some 2x6 down to support the front tires that go all the way forward to the back tires. Back it in, weight is more on the back of the RZR.

You could also look at www.rzrforums.net

If not clear enough just ask, been there done that.

I agree with jballou. A couple of years ago, I had the tailgate cables fail on my Ford 350 Superduty when I was off loading some feed. I had unloaded about 20 bags and set the next 12 or so bags on the tailgate so they would be easier to get at from the ground. The next thing I knew; snap, bang,,,,,,,it was ugly! It bent the tailgate so bad that it wouldn't close. In this situation the cables didn't break, they pulled free from the upper metal crimp fitting. I certainly won't go down the highway with an unsupported load, such as your RZR, resting on the tailgate.

I get it and will even use 2x8s and build a hump/ramp to match the wheel well humps.

Is it good to go down the road on a long trip with that set up?

How ever long you want. Truck will do fine.

If it is an S model it will drive over the wheel wells and be held in place. Standard 50" width will fit between the wheel wells.

Just put some lumber of your choice down 2x whatever width. Hit the road.
