tail light swap

tail light swap

i recently sold my 01 and now im looking at an 08, the only thing i dont like about the truck is the lego tail lights i was wondering if i could swap them out with a pair off an 06? please advise thanks

No. The plugs are different. If you are into rewiring them you could probably make them work. IIRC the mounting is the same so it is just a wiring issue.

You can get a tail light wiring pigtail for the 2006 tail light. It takes all of about 5 mins to change the plug. The wiring color codes are the same. I changed the plugs and tail lights on a friends truck last year. I soldered the pigtail wires and used shrink tubing to seal the connection.

Not 100% sure, but I think 05 was the last year for the smooth taillights, not 06.

My 2006 has the smooth tail lights, last year of them, the lego tail lights began in 2007.

That's great info. Thanks Carol.
I switched mine to the LED style which were plug and play. I wanted the lego lenses first but didn't want to mess with wiring. I guess it wouldn't have been so bad

Unless the lighting has changed, the lens housings are the only difference. Can you not just unscrew the circuit board from the lego lens housings and screw them into the older model housings?

This year I had to replace both of my tail lamp housings and the circuit boards which hold the bulbs had to be purchased separately.
