Strange Rear Break Pad Is it a Problem?

I just had my tires turned and thought since i have abot 43k on the truck I should do a quick pad inspection when it was on the rack. I saw somthing that i believe to be strange. I have done break jobs before both disk and drum and never seen somthing like this. At the trailing edge in the forward direction IE the top of the pad as you are looking at it on the outside pad there is a change in the pad on both sides it suddenly tapers from what looks like good wear to about a 35 degree angle and tapers to the end of the pad. one side is worse than the other. Is this a normal thing on heavy trucks or should i be alarmed. I dont tow much and havent felt any breaking problems in preformance. Any input would be apreiciated.
Thanks

NO, I have not. Its normal to see a differences in pad thickness from inside pad to outside pad, with a flat ware on the pads. I would take a closer look at that side.

The pads are tapered at both ends. They are not straight or flat like most pads are.

OK thats what you talking about. Had a differant picture in my head thinking angle ran the lenght of pad, like a slice pie or pizza. That would not be good.

I was thinking the same thing. Thought his whole pad was tapered. I should have read his post better. So much for my mechanical insights.

I have seen where people taper the leading edge of a pad in an attempt to stop brake squeel could be what you are seeing. In fact some after market pads come this way not sure of the angle and have not looked at mine.

This just was out of place because the front pads are wearing uniform across the pad and the pad next to the calaper is flat as well it is only the pads on the outside on both sides. These are factory breakes and would think that it would at lest be a match set front and rear or mabye inside to out. Dont know but it hasnt seemed to affect preformance. anyway as the pad wears out i will have more stoping power from the added serface area of the pad i would think.
