Stereo Install??
Stereo Install??
Hey guys, so I am looking to install a new headunit and speakers, but am not too sure on exactly what I need. I currently have the Infinity 7 speaker setup with the RBQ stereo.
I am looking to buy just a head unit (Alpine IDA-X305S) and two component speakers for the front. I am not going to buy an amp or subs just yet.
I know I need the speaker adapters so they will mount up, and the stereo adapter so the headunit can be mounted; but what else do I need as far as wiring harness? I want to bypass the factory amp, and run the new front components and the two old rear speakers to the new headunit.
Any info is appreciated!

If you buy from Crutchfield, specify that you have the 4 speaker system and they will give you the wiring harness for free. When you wire the harness to the head unit, do not connect the 'Power Antenna' lead on the harness. That is the pin Dodge uses as the remote on for the Infinity amp. This way it will not come on. You can hook into the existing speaker wires under the kick panels on each side of the dash. If you plan on adding an amp in the future, go ahead and run higher gauge speaker wire now from the head unit, at least to the door speakers.
This info relates to my '04, not sure if valid for newer year models.

Thanks a bunch for the info!
So if I make sure not to connect the Power Antenna lead, is there any way to use the AM/FM Radio with another harness?
And also if I hook into the existing speaker wires under the kick panels, this is bypassing the factory amps correct? I would like bypass them so I can hookup to another amp in the future.

Your new head unit will have a "Remote On" wire which is used to switch on your amps. The wiring harness also has a remote on wire, on mine it was labeled "Power Antenna". No need to hook these together as it will turn on the Infinity amp. Run a wire directly from the new head unit "Remote On" to your new amp.
Forgot to mention in the other post, do not connect your "speaker out" wires on the new head unit to the wiring harness. Run them directly to the new speakers or to where you tie in under the kick panels. And yes, under the kick panels is after the Infinity amp.
