Stereo Install Q's

Ok so I getting ready to install a new head unit, sub box and amp and I don't want to pay the $175 for somebody to install everything. The only part that I will have a problem with is bypassing the factory amp. If anyone has bypassed their factory please let me knwo what exactly I need to do. If anyone knows of any wiring schematics on the web PLEASE let me know. When I am done I will let everybody know how this new sub box sounds. Its formed with ABS resin and has 5/8" MDF on the top of the enclosure also, it has 1.7 cu. ft. air space which is huge for the quad cabs. Thanks for any directions or info.

now are you going to power all the speakers with aftermarket power? if you are bypassing the amp is as simple as that. just unplug it and tap into the ouput connector to power everthing or run new wires.

here is a diagram of the wiring you need.

Would that wiring diagram be the same for an 03 with the infinity system?

Thanks

just run new speaker wire from the headunit to the speakers. you should have picked up the harness adapter. It has 4 pairs of wires. green, grey, purple and orange i believe. one with and without a black stripe. the adapter package should have a key. i didnt have to bypass an amp on mine but i dealt with it in my jeep. I took the smart way this time around and ordered the truck without the premium sytem. another option is to buy a 4 channel amp and just run RCAs from the headunit to the amp and then new speaker wire to the doors from there ( easier being an amp will be more centrally placed.) I believe this will be your easiest way because not only will it allow an easy return to stock, but it will bypass the small inferior stock wires that otherwise you have to butcher or at least by another adapter to get it to work. And with a setup like that, you could easily plug your old headunit back in if lets say your new one breaks or is stolen.

Also the box sounds interesting, wheres it sit? what sub are you filling it with? I have a jl w6 10" sub inbetween my seats with the ebay box. its everything i wanted and more. (and this is coming from someone who had 2 15's in his jeep in highschool.)
goodluck!

Ramtough, are those the old w6s or the new v2s?
Juice, what kind of subs are you running? I am looking at the same box also and cant decide between, kicker L7s, JL w6v2s, audiobahn, or memphis. Anybody with any info on these subs please chime in. I know they are all good subs but the price goes from 200 a pair to 500 plus, I just want to get my money's worth.

that diagram is out of the 04 service manual you would have to verify if it was the same.

one thing I forgot to ask was how are you powering the other speakers? by the new deck or by amplifier. I am not sure that deck power would sound better than the infinity sound. it would be a toss up as deck power sucks IMO. I would ask around before you do that. you may not need to bypass. I think the infinity sound sounds better than deck power. I added some caps to the 6x9's in the doors to cross them over a bit higher becasue they distored a bit stock. they sound decent now.

also do you have new speakers? the stockers are 2ohm and may cause your deck to clip out if you try to run them. Most aftermarket decks are not 2ohm stable. aftermaket amps are 2ohm stable and will run them. although the lower impedance will give you more power but a bit higher distortion rating.

now if you have more than one amp or a 5 channel dissregaurd the post.

I was able to find a pair of Audiobahn AWC10T 10" Subs for like $130 brand new so I plan on running them. They are the sub reccomended by audiobahn for solid bass while listening to rock. Search ebay, I have saved myself literally $1000's just by doing a little research and then searching for the best prices.

Here the easy way to install new head unit and bypass factory amp.

2004 Infinity speaker wire colors

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For those of you who are looking to up grade your infinity sound system here are the wire colors going to each speaker from the factory amp. As you all know if you are planning to change out the factory head unit you will need to bypass the factory amp. You can access the wires for the door speakers in the front kick panels on each side. To get to the tweeters just pop off the top dash cover over them and hook up new wires which can get dropped down to the kick panels and tie in with the front speakers. Just remenber to use a cross over so you only send high frequencies to them.

Front left door speaker wire, (-) Dark green with light blue tracer (+) Dark green with yellow tracer.
Front right door speaker wire (-) Grey with light blue tracer, (+) Grey with yellow tracer.
Rear Left door speaker wire, (-) Grey with dark green tracer, (+)Grey with light green tracer.
Rear Right door speaker wire, (-) Dark green with grey tracer, (+)Dark green with light green tracer

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

04 3500 SW auto, Banks 6 gun with speed loader, cold air intake, 4" exhaust with 4040L aero turbine muffler, 2" revtek leveling kit, Sat. radio and 10" sub, Crome H2 rims and 315 BFG's

Ta Da

I just want to let everyone know that I was able to run my stock infinity amp with a new head unit. All I had to do was tie in the remote wire on the wiring harness no problems. And to top it off the harness was not anything special, I got it a Wal-Mart. The hardest part of the project was tearing my entire dash off to run the amp wires. I am still waiting on my sub box unfortunately.

I recently installed 2 10" subs in an enclosed probox into my quad. I put a JL 500W Mono class D amp to power them and they ROCK. I also went with the 6.5 Memphis M class for the front doors and let a Kenwood x889 (excelon series) headunit push them. and the rear door speakers which are factory. I have to keep the bass at -9 most of the time with the amp running at about .5 of its gain. I lovem and the sound quality is AWESOME!
