Steps

I was wondering if any of you guys have found some steps that bolt to the frame that drop down any? I am about to buy some Ranch Hand steps, but I wanted to see if anyone has found any that drop down. That's the only complaint I have of the RH steps, are they only stick out, and don't drop.

The step MUST bolt to the frame. I refuse to have steps hanging on my body that can rip the body off if the fail or some retard hits my truck.

Not going to spend 1300 bucks on steps. I should have said that in the original post.

As nice as the Power steps are, they are very spendy. Plus, they also suspend from the body, which you aren't looking for. I have been having a tough time finding steps or nerf tubes that #1 look right with the proper distance to actually be a step, and #2 are actually tough enough and built of proper materials to justify the prices being asked for them! Since when is cheap stainless exhaust pipe, mandrel bent and chrome-plated worth $500.00?? Only supports 285 lbs -- what is that about?? I am 6'4" tall, run 285 in my birthday suit, and need some real steps when I am decked out in working wear!

Kodiac/Sidewinder used to make a power step similar to the AMP step, but they're individual, not a full length nerf bar/running board. I dont know all the specs on em, but they drop out and down.

I know you said the AMP steps were not an option, but after 4+ years mine have held up great. I'm 230lbs.
Definitely worth the money IMO.

I seen some last year that were made in San Marcos IIRC, that fit your description perfectly. I'm not sure what my friend paid for his but I will try to get a name for you.
When I was looking for steps, I considered the N-Fab steps but I think that they are attached to the body. They do have some that drop down a little though.
One of the problems that I had was that any step that I found that actually dropped down enough to be useful also was subject to me knocking them off or bending something when I go off road. I wound up with the AMP steps also. For something that I use everyday, multiple times a day, I think that they are well worth it.

I may just have to go with the RH then. I am not finding anything that bolt to the frame really. Most of them bolt to the body.

N-Fab with 465lb rating. You can get several styles. I'm considering these steps myself so I can get at my toolbox without standing on the tire or getting into the bed.
I'd like to see the attachment points, though. I don't want a bracket that attaches to the body either.

N-Fabs attach to the body. If I go with body mounted the N-Fabs would be my first choice, But even they want 500 bucks for some metal welded and powder coated. These companies are out of control now days.

I think I need to save for the AMP Research steps myself. They are the right height I want for actually getting into the cab, and tuck away neatly to stay out of the way when not needed. They also will support my weight fine. My concerns with the Body Mounting are how well the steps holdup to bumps and abuse -- the N-Fabs look good, but will transfer all shocks to the body pinch weld when contact is made off-road, etc. The AMP Research steps are tucked back up by the underside, keeping the almost stock clearance height.

I am really disappointed in the asking prices for all of them. Even with overhead and machinery, I would think mass production levels should bring the prices down. The profit margin must be huge!

What about the steps from UWS? Who has some that can post a pic or two of the mounting brackets/location?

I have the N fabs and I love them. Also I see you are from Houston. Did you know the N fabs are manufactured in North Houston.

What I did was purchased from some North East internet company selling them and then asked if they could contact the company and I could just pickup.

That way I saved on sales tax and shipping.

Thanks,

Jay
