steering stabilizer

Been thinking about a new steering stabilizer. I read the stock ones are junk anyway. Anyone know what the best and cheapest place to buy them is these days?

I have had the one from Don with the Fox, I like it, and it was priced right to. I would definantly check it out.

Go buy the Aug issue of 8-Lug. There is an article where they put one on 06 2500 mega. It's a Carli Kit.

Looks good from the pics anyways.

I second Don's stabilizer. Quality is 2nd to none with performance to match. And the price can't be beat, either.

Check it out:

Carli's is nice, but I prefer a IFP shock (Fox) to an emulsion shock (Radflo), especially when laid on it's side.

I stuck the dual superlift stabilizer on mine with two Bilstein shocks and you couldnt ask for a nicer handling truck. Lots more comfortable to drive! I am all about the custom guys stuff but I got a heck of a deal on this setup so I couldnt turn it down. Plus it came with some cool bracketry that makes it functional and looks decent at the same time.

$264 is a good price? Your crazy. I'm with DmaxeTer - it's a daily driver, not a pre-runner.

If you want to replace junk with junk, be my guest.

Sorry. That could have come out nicer. What I'm saying is, I'm not trying to turn this magacab into something it isn't, and run the baja with it. Most of the world thinks Bilstein shocks are decent enough for the average Joe -including KORE actually. Everything has a place and I need something better then stock. You run high end suspensions and components for that. That's cool too. Just not my thing is all.

Bilstein does make a good shock, and if you're just replacing the factory unit with a new one 'cause the old was is worn or just 'cause it's crap I'm sure the Bilstein will work great. It sounds like DmaxEter really likes his. But if you're trying to eliminate steering issues I'd take the next step.

How much is that Superlift dual setup anyway?

I always had good luck with dual rancho's on my 97 3500, I think they are only $50 each. But for all I know, Don's could make it drive that much better and last that much longer and be worth the price.

I am agreeing with ya here. If you buy the Superlift dual set up and two Bilsteins, I am thinking you would have just as much, if not just a touch more than the setup from Don.

Superlift dual set up looks like about 129.95, add two Bilsteins and you are pretty much there.

I am by no means knocking Superlift, lol I am running their lift as we speak, and it handles what I do with it great!

It is just that it seems to me that when you can get a more custom setup for your truck that will handle (what i think is better) for a longer period of time, for the same money, why not go for it.

In the end the decision is ultimatly yours, and you should buy what you think will make you happy performance and price point wise, but in this case you are talking about pretty much the same money.

I looked at ALOT of stabilizer setups before I chose mine. I was totally satisfied that I got more than my moneys worth....just my .02

What are the benefits of this mod. If the truck is stock, stock tires and no lift. Is it necessary?

I thought it really makes a difference only if the truck has larger tires or tires with a lift.

Based on how many here (and on other sites) have had to replace the steering stabalizer shock pretty early in mileage, getting one of an equal comparison to the stock unit translates to having to do another early replacement because they are inadequate. So, moving up to something of a better quality just might extend the life of the unit and it's function for a longer timeframe, even a MUCH longer timeframe.

I pondered how the ineffectivity of the stock shock might have contributed to other failures of the steering system an the front end overall???? That ponderence led me to thinking about going to a MUCH better performing unit as the other components are VERY MUCH more expensive than the better quality aftermarket steering shock.

When you also consider the overall investment in the vehicle, why would you want to 'cheapen' something as all-important as this?? Through the years I have had to replace these on other vehicles, I have always gone to something better than stock. Stock is like using the lowest bidder.
