Steering problem

When I'm taking any corner at 45mph or faster the steering wheel wanders back and forth which makes the truck weave back and forth, back and forth all the way through the corner

How's the fluid in the power steering? Sounds more like the power steering pump. Could be the valve in the pump not holding fluid pressure when in the turn.

The fluid was at the bottom of the stick, below the add line. I haven't drove around a high speed corner yet to see if it made a difference

You are in 2WD, right? Next would be axle U joints or steering shock, followed by a really bad tire.

I just put new tires on it with no difference. Just got back from driving it around some curves and its noticeably better but still there, this is after filling the p/s fluid up. Although I used regular p/s fluid and I think it takes atf +4. Will this hurt anything?

So I'm thinking that the pump is going bad since adding fluid there helped, maybe it being ran low messed it up

PS uses ATF+4. Even if you change the pump. you will still have to flush the system

Alright thanks. Are these pumps fairly easy to change, judging by the reservoir its down there quite a ways

Before you change the pump, jack up the front end, one side at a time, and with the steering wheel turned to one side rotate the wheel by hand. If you have a axel u-joint that is locked up you will be able to feel it.
