Steering problem?

05' 3500 SRW. 62000 miles

When stopped the steering wheel has gotten difficult to turn. At times it has gotten very difficult to the point of having to pull hard with two hands when trying to get into a tight parking spot. It is the most difficult when not moving at all, not inching up. There is no steering pump whine though. Any suggestions?

It used to move easily with just one hand.

Not quite shore how I would tell if the steering gear was worn, but no binding. The steering is not totally tight when driving like it used to be, some steering slop. it does return to center well.

Pump is what I was thinking, but wouldn't that be accompanied by excessive whining from it too?

it will start whining little by little, mine is doing the same, once in a while when i make a turn it whines a little, the other day i pull over to add fluid thinking that is was low since it was whinning pretty often but the fluid level was ok.
