Steering Gear Replacement

I replace the steering box on my 06 mega cab today with one from red head. I have the service manual for the truck and the torque specs for the box said 145 ft lb it just seems a little bit much for the size of bolts that hold it on. Has anyone replaced one and torqued it to 145 with out any isues? Thanks for any input.

yes, I have torqued them to 145, with both new, and used bolts, with no problems at all.

Torque is somewhat critical on those bolts, as they hold a tremendous amount of pressure when the steering gear is in motion.

Thanks to all that have replied I will tork them down then. I only went to 85 ft lb when I put it on I just did not want to break a bolt after spending all that time getting it on there. Getting the pitman arm off was a nightmare I liked the red head box and think it drives better now than when it was new.
