Steering Box Out....again...
Steering Box Out....again...
This is the 3rd one that has gone out in almost 3 years.... The one thats currently on my truck(steering box #3) was put on 4 months ago...
The dealership told me that because of the lift and larger tires on the truck (*Note* I bought the truck NEW from the dealership with the lift and tires already on it... ) that they were not going to warranty it anymore after this last one was put on....
I understand that the lift and larger tires are going to shorten the life of my steering components, but 4 months?
Do they really not have to warranty the steering box, even though i bought the truck with the lift and tires already installed or is this something i could argue?
My warranty is due to expire in Oct, and i know eventually the steering box will go out again. What are my options on a more heavy duty one?

If you bought one of them high dollar conversions, with factory installed lift, tires, etc, I'd fight it! I'd also suggest to them installing a steering brace and see if they might even purchase and install it in hopes of it not happening again. Its worth a shot. Good luck and keep us informed.
When a dealer sells a new vehicle with aftermarket parts installed/included in the sale price, whatever the warranty of the aftermarket part applies. IF the lift kit was a DODGE option, then the warranty would be the same as the truck. IF the aftermarket part can be proven to be causing the problem, it becomes your problem. IF it can be proven that your lift kit is not the problem, then the steering box IS their problem.
Knowing that larger tires and lifts CAN contribute to shortening the life of a component, installing the steering box stabalizer would have been a no-brainer, especially after having one, let alone 3 steering boxes replaced.
If this were a common problem, meaning that many other people were experiencing similar problems after installing the lift and tires that you have installed, it might be that the lift kit manufacturer has or bears some responsibility toward your repairs. That being said, it would be cheaper to buy a new steering box and the steering stabalizer vrs paying attorney fees.

Knock on wood
, I have not had a single problem with my steering box and I am running 39.5's! I would fight it since you bought the truck from the dealer lifted. Mine was lifted too and they have taken care of me for EVERYTHING i have ever had a problem with. Luckily nothing major (except a radiator on wednesday but extended warranty covered it.)

Thats a good idea(about them in stalling the brace), i will suggest that when i take it in on Friday.
Here's a question though... Is the brace an actual fix, or am i just puting a band-aid on the problem?
Have you checked you reservoir cap? Does it release pressure when you take it off?
What are your symptoms? I need a new box since my steering isnt returning to center. Im gonna go you autozone and get one for $200.
but normally you can just tell... the steering feels funny.. doesnt handle like your use to..
it's like your constantly "overcorrecting" while steering...
