Question Spray in Bed Liners

OK who has them and which do you like the best.

Doing my research and yes did a search etc on multiple sites. So far I have to say the Ultimate and Speedliner are the top of my list. Rhino and Line-X look good and I have many opinion on them.

The Ultimate liner seems to be a good deal and done by a guy who use to do Rhino liners. He changed over to Ultimate because he likes it better and does not go on with a high pressure gun.

Speedliner seems liek a god choice as it is done by a real autobody shop by me. I KNOW the importance of prep work and this guy is the ONLY guy who says he sands the bed down 100% and need 24 hours to do the truck. Also he does autobody so he knows the impotance of prep etc.

Speedliner offers to match ANY color for $80 (he is the auto body shop) and for about $30 they put kevlar chips in the liner to make it 50% stronger. Also he says you only need about 1/8" all over as it is stronger so when you open the tail gate it looks very nice and flat. The other companies need 1/4" in the bed.

Also on the speedliner if he does well with the bed and the color is exact match, maybe I will have him do the rocker panels starting behind the front tire to the back of the bed. I have the 3500 and because of the height i noticed that ALOT does spray onto the areas behind the front and rear tires.

I have the charcol metalic gray color and would love that kind of protection on the lower side of the truck. I have heard about it being done but have not seen any good close up pictures....

OK thoughts on liner brands? Thoughts on rocker panels being sprayed?!?!

I got the Line-X and love it. No problems at all. I had them do the bed but not the side rails. I did however ask them to do the top of the tailgate and they did no extra charge.

What I like about the Line-X is they removed the tailgate cover before spraying it so I can get to the screws in the future incase my latch goes bad. My friend who had the Rhino had his cover completely sprayed.....no access to anything.


Overall I think they did a great job and looks great!

I'm really close to deciding between Turboliner and Speedliner. I want the bed black but like you I'm going to get the panels done and color choices would be sweet.

There is a shop close to me that does Turboliner (http://www.turboliner.com) and I'm really impressed with the way they prep the truck. It's part of a big auto repair/accessory complex. Their delivery trucks have the beds sprayed and get slammed daily and still look great after a couple of years.

Haven't visited a Speedliner dealer yet. Probably this week.

I've heard that the prep work and application is just as important if not more important than the actual material. I believe it because I've seen crappy installations of Rhino and LineX and I know they're both excellent materials.

Thru my research, 5 years working in a body shop/auto shop let me correct you on this one.... Prep work is 90%, material is 10%.....

That is why I am thinking speedliner as the color choices and it is a body shop so I can see his quality in other products. Also I can trust his eye for color mixing (this is HARD as I has seen paint mixed alot and it look WAY off tll the guy puts it on and it matches 100%). It is 100% custom so no choosing a premixed color.

Lastly he is the only one that needs time with the truck and will sand it down etc. Most people are 3 hour turn around time and I like that because I can sit and watch. Speedliner guy wants 24 hrs and swears by his product and work.

Price here for long bed and bed rails is $560. This includes $80 to get any color I want (will match the truck most likely. Almost all companies told me the lighter the color the more it WILL fade) and $30 to add Kevlar in the mix to strenghten it.

I got a Reflex liner. The thing I like best about it is it is sticky. It is like a big spray in rubber mat.

I have the Ultimate Lining and I really like it. I've had a Line-X Liner in the past and was happy with that liner also. There wasn't a Line-X dealer in my area so that's why I went with Ultimate. I also agree that the quality of the prep and application is what to look for when researching the type of liner. My dealer was able to apply the liner using low pressure for a softer liner (like Rhino) or a high pressure for a harder liner (like Line-X). Since I had a Line-X in the past, I went with the high pressure application.

jmho... I don't think it matters so much what one you get, as how they install it. I went down to a store to view their handiwork proudly displayed in their show room. Nice work! on thick etc. etc. but they took a knife and trimmed the edge around the truck box right through the paint. I have noticed this on other spray in liners running around town. I called the line-x dealer and found this guy used special tape with wire embedded to make a nice line.
there were no cuts in my paint, either he was very careful with a knife or there is "special" tape. Any way I was happy

I had my bed and rockers done with Line X. I have pics in my gallery. I definitely recommend getting the rockers done.

Line-X and really enjoying it. Had it done over the rails as well. They removed all the tie-down points, tailgate and tailgate cover prior to spraying the liner. The hi-psi spray-ins do allow cargo slippage but do not gouge as easily as the lo-psi sprays. Lo-psi sprays also require more cure time and they cannot remove/reinstall the tailgater cover.
Several brands are out there but it really boils down to lo-pressure or hi-pressure application and as already stated, the preparation is 90% of how well either will hold up. Good luck with whichever brand you choose .

A buddy of mine had Speedliner installed in his 3500. Very skilled guys installed that suff - real crafstsman. It's the best liner job I've ever seen. That's the route I'd take.

Like others have said, it's not so much the material, it's the prep work. My last truck had Rhino and ALL screws and plugs were removed prior to application and replaced as part of the finish work. Looked great and had total access.

That said, I am reading these threads with interest because I know things change and am about to get one installed. I've heard good things on here about Reflex and now Speedliner.

Choices, choices.... Now if I could only find dealers around here who install these brands.

Their web sites can direct you to their nearest dealers and Speedliner has a coupon on their web site. I have Speedliner, see member pics. My advise. Get references before you decide on which shop, THEY'RE ONLY AS GOOD AS THE INSTALLER. I'm not yelling. It's just that I've seen some botched jobs for several diff kinds. On some liners, you can get Kevlar added, some warranty their liners from peeling but not color fade, some require sealers (more $$$) to warranty against fade. Avoid white unless they guarantee in writing, some turn yellowish/gray
ASK FOR REFERENCES some 18 months or older. Pay close attention to masking techniques especially near taillights and tailgate hinges. Decide in advance if you're gonna use a cap or cover; you will not want the rails sprayed if you're gonna use a cap, also with a cap you'll want a smooth texture so it's not so tuff on the knees. I went with Speedliner, rough texture, painful to the knees even with jeans; stuff stays put, but the bottom tears out of heavy cardboard boxes before I can drag them out. But I don't use a cap and I often drag stuff over the sides. PM me if you want to discuss Speedliners further. Good luck, and post pics of the completed job. Nat

Thanks everyone.... As my research and this post shows prep work is #1 and all the companies are good. Some people like one kind over another.

Looks like i am going to look at the Ultimate and the Speedliner. Already I am thinking Speedliner.... As I said in the original it is the only one around here done by a 40 yr old body shop owner. I can look at his body work to see how he is matching color etc. Plus he is the only one that will match color for under $100. Rhino wanted $300 for custom color!

Plus this was the ONLY Guy that needs time with my truck..... 24 hours for a full sand down, clean up, spray in, and dry time.

Also speedliner is the only one I can add kevlar to increase the tear strenght above all other brands.... Also he was the only guy that talked about a warrenty against fading. Everyone else just said "it will fade in the long run so get a dark color".

I will definately post some pictures and revive this post when I get it done (within the next 2 weeks) so keep an eye out.

Anyone do any custom colors that did not match the truck??? I will most likely do the charcol grey that my truck is..... The rocker panels are up in the air, it depends upon how nice the bed liner comes out. Also not sure to do the same color or seperate color....

I hear you, Johnny V. I think I'm going to get the bed done first at the local Turboliner shop. I was going to do the bed black either way.

If I get the rocker panels it will be Superliner for the color. I called Superliner and asked for the best installer in Southern California. They tried to direct me to the dealer locator and say they were all qualified. I said give me the guy that you wouldn't hesitate to send your 40K truck. He said "Oh I understand" and gave me a name and number.

So I talked to the guy and like you said he needed the truck overnight, primarily for the long drying time. He uses Kevlar standard unless the customer requests not to have it. One interesting note is how he said he's able to fine tune the finished texture. He said I might want to have the rocker panels a lot smoother than I would want the bed. Something to think about.

Colors scare me. Man I would hate to try and color match and get it messed up. If I do the rocker panels I think I will go for a complimentary color or shade to be safe.

Let us know how it comes out.
