So I gots me some new shoes on the goat. Got some Nitto 285/17/E. Now My speedo needs a do over. Yes the dealer can do it but,, I don't like going to the dealer they would probably want money. Are there any volunteers in my area with a Smarty or something that can hook my up?

 

I believe the Smarty ABS is vin locked. I have the 285/70 R17 hankook A/T a 32.7 inch tire. Smarty adjusted with 55PSI in rear to 32.00. Checked it with a radar sign. I am very close. started at 32.50 on the Smarty.

I got a quote today from Discount Tire of $1349.00 for Nitto Dura Grapplers 285-75-17 in Conroe TX. I'm going to look somewhere else.

 

Off the question at hand I got mine installled with lifetime rotate balance and free flat repair for $860. Dura Grapplers were the same price they said.

 

FYI - my dealer did my recal for $50. I'm not sure if you (having an '06) can have the dealer do it anyway - someone should chime in and verify that shortly. I think they can only go up to the 285/70/17's for your model year.

BUT -

I think I saw a thread around here a while back saying there's a Snap-On tools fix for this - maybe you could find a Snap-On distributor that would do it for cheap for you?

Called dealer and they said $97. That is crazy just to hook up a computer. They said yeah it takes about an hour to redo all the programming???

 

B.S. Takes any competent technician maybe 10 minutes, tops. They are going to charge you for a hours worth of labor just because they can.

They just have to go in their with their programmer, select ABS settings and dial in the tire size. How does that take an hour? If you don't have a scanner of your own or a programmer to do it by your self your only option may be the dealer. At least call a different dealer and see if they will actually tell you the truth.

 

They are a-lying to you. 5 minutes, tops.

 

I say 3 minutes tops.....I watched them recal mine and they charged me zero! Just get them to come up and check for codes..sweet talk the tech into changing it. I also had them change my interior/exterior light timings.
