Spare Key Question

Went to the local wally place and had a spare key cut. Is there a chip or something in the original key? When using the "new" key it will turn over but it will not start.

If the rubber part of your key is grey then you have a chipped key. Got to get it from the dealer. If its black, it should work. My bet is its grey.

Good Key shops have the blanks and I have seen some on E-bay...

You want to get at least one more key made before you loose one or one goes bad. They are programed in the truck and you need to have 2 programed keys to program another key.. If you don't it is big bucks from dodge to get one that is pre programed...

One of the first things I did was had 2 more keys made...

Gray keys have the chips in them, as mentioned before if you have two that work you can program it yourself, if not you need the dealer or a really good locksmith (some have the programmers if they do alot of car business). They are easy to program if you have two.

I picked up a "grey" blank at place that sells keys, and took it to another place that installs security systems. They used my 2 programmed keys and programmed the new blank in a minute. It cost me about $15 total if I remember correctly. I'm interested in how to program it myself??
