Sony Xplod speakers

Who is running Sony Xplod speakers?
Did you go 2. 3 or 4 way in the front?

what size and 2, or 3 way on the rear?

Thanks!

I have about 10 years of car audio experience (I used to install them before joining the Navy as well) and to be honest with you, though I'm not going to brand bash, if you have a little extra money to spend and want your future accoustics to sound really good, I would: 1.) Tend to stay away from brands such as Sony or any other brand that you can pick up at Wal-Mart or your local auto/hardware dealer, just for simple reasons such as choppier sound and a moderate fail rate (they are usually your low end brands). 2.) I would also stay away from 2, 3 and 4 way speaker setups as well. They look like they are awesome because they have all sorts of extra cool looking tweeters, etc attached to the middle of the driver's cone, but really they are less efficient (if you were going to run a big subwoofer, would you want a hole in the middle of it?) You want to go with component sets for optimal sound quality.

I'm not trying to represent brands here, but if I were going to upgrade my truck's sound system (not into it so much anymore because I have the Infinity package in my truck which is decent and my wife and i are planning on having a youngin or two soon and won't need blaring music anymore), but I would go with Focal, MB Quart, JL Audio XR series, Infinity Kappa Perfect and a couple other brands. They will live longer and sound much better. Like I said, I don't know what kind of money that you are working with, or what your needs/wants are...I am just trying to give you a little forsight on what I have experienced over the years.

Derek

P.S. If you ever have any questions in regards to something audio, you can PM me anytime.

derek,
I am just looking to replace factory with something halfway decent. I am not looking for a crank it up contest winner.
That being said, What would you replace the factory with? The most I may go after that is a 75x4 amp.

Thanks!

If you don't want top line, then I would go with an Infinity Kappa component set up front and an Infinity Kappa 2 way in the back. A 75x4 Phoenix Gold Octane amp would push them perfectly and it would sound great. I know that I said 2, 3 and 4 way speakers aren't all they are as cracked up to be as compared to a component set is, but if you put good components in the front and a set of 2 ways in the back, you won't even be able to tell a difference of what is in the back as much...that component set up front will be primarily what everybody in the vehicle will be hearing. If you wanted a little better, get two component sets, one for the front, one for the back...either way you will be sounding good and the Infinity Kappas and PG Octane Amps aren't that expensive either. If I am not mistaken, you are running 6" door speakers all around...somebody chime in if they are actually 5 1/4", but by looking at the door housing, I would go with the 6".

Belay my last, I just went out to my truck to check things out, just to be sure and it looks like they are 5 1/4" after all...all the way around.

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=2934 You could get two of these sets

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...Product_ID=454 and this amp and sound FAR better than what DC uses for even their "premium audio" (the Infinity package I have in my truck)

and then all you would need is an 8 gauge wiring kit http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...&Product_ID=13 that can be had for around $20-25 bucks and you would be set...all for about $550 if you do the work yourself...a hundred or two more if you pay an installer to do it.

Are you planning on an aftermarket CD player or the stock one? If you stay stock, you may need to get an RCA adapter for an additional $20-$50 bucks depending on where you get it.

Well there ya have it...doesn't look like I have a 6x9 in my truck...maybe it's because I have the Infinity Package...but either way, you can get component sets in 5 1/4 or 6" with a mounting bracket for a 6x9 enclosure

Memphis is not too pricey and have a nice sound quality to boot.
