Question Sliding rear window vs. defroster, ordering Wednesday

OK, it has come time to order a 2004.5 3500 SRW Quadcab. If you have a sliding rear window do you use it or have it because in looks cool?

I have a sliding rear window in the my small present pickup and have never needed it. Would be grateful for any help you can give.

Great question . I too am going to order a new 2500 HO tomorrow and am also wondering about the rear slider too. With all the talk about fumes entering the cab why would we need it ?

I've never used mine. In fact, at one time it rattled like crazy. That rattle has since disapeared.

Thumbs down Never got one after the first time in 90.

I have the rear defrost on this truck and have actually used it several times. Never thought I would.
Had regular glass in the past several trucks all but the 90 Ram.
I don't miss the slider and I never used it anyway.

Talking I went with the slider

I went with the slider. With a fiberglass cap on the back it seems kind of nice to have the rear slider.Just my personal choice. It seems with the defrost on high it will clear the back window, just fine.coobie

Sliders are also easy targets for thieves. Only time I used one was to transport 16' trim. Other than that I would opt for the defroster. JMO

Hey we got a puke icon. Great!!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I had wondered about the security of a sliding rear window. I was told that most don't bother, they just pop a window with a sharp object like the contact end of a spark plug. Quicker and if they get caught with a spark plug in their pocket it would never be considered a burglury tool.

My main reasons for leaning toward a solid window:

1) Unreachable in a Quadcab

2) Possiblity of wind noise

3) Not good for ventilation because of the vacum produced at highway speeds may pull in exhaust fumes.

4) Slightly better visibility through rear window

Hauling long objects may be something to think about.

I like the slider becuase I have a fiberglass cap,and I can reach though there to open the cap window for the hunting dogs to get some air. I also hual 10 foot pipe and conduct though the windows.

I wish the rear window defogger was an option when I got mine. On the QC you can't reach the rear window anyway and I would have prefered the Rear Window Defogger because the rear window does fog up pretty good and is hard to get clear until you have heat, oh yeah you get lots of that, .
Just my .03 worth

window defogger

I opted for the window defogger and I'm so glad that I did. It has come in handy on numerous occasions. My previous truck (F350 PSD) had a slide and I never used it once and I have a Lance camper. When the camper isn't on the back of my new 3500 CTD, the ARE shell is. I got the drop down window on the ARE for cleaning purposes.

I guess I would opt for the rear defrost if I had to make a choice between the two.

My Quad Cab Rear Cargo Floor came in today and if I had a choice of the three options that would be it. I love it! It is what I really needed for a change. It is out of the way when not needed and has a useful purpose to haul things securely in the rear seat area when it is. I'm really gonna enjoy this option. All I need is a roll out rubber mat to put on top of it to make sure things don't slide around. I do have a cargo net that will match my interior from a Grand Cherokee that's gonna work out nicely with it also.

I ordered an ARE cab high CX Series Topper for the Ram Friday, look forward to it's arrival. Jim

My rear slider got broken out several months ago and all of my CDs were stolen. I replaced it with a solid rear glass. One thing I have noticed is that the buffetting effect with the rear windows down seems to be lessened with the solid rear vs. the slider. Not sure what the deal is there, but I also don't have the slider rattle that some of the others have had.

Expensive lesson, but I'll never have another rear slider.

Get the solid window with the defroster. On many occasions I have wished I had the rear window defroster. It wasn't offered when I bought my truck or I would have got it. I have never once opened the rear window in the year I've had my truck. Maybe if I had rear seat passengers (other than babies and a dog) it would get some use.

My truck came with the "beer window", but I was impartial to having it. I don't really see the need for a rear window defroster either. Very rarely has enough frost accumulated on the rear window to really bother me. Not to mention, that's what the side mirrors are for and they have defrosters.

And I might add that the heated tow mirrors work very well. Driving in the rain over Christmas I was very impressed the way that they cleared almost instantly when I pressed the button.
