Short Keyless Entry Range Problem
Short Keyless Entry Range Problem
On my truck I have for last few months been having a problem with a short keyless entry range. I have to be within 10 feet or so of my truck for it to work. I have changed the batteries and I have tried both of the remotes I have and neither make any difference. That leaves me to believe that there is some sort of problem with the receiver.
Has anyone else had this problem? Where should I start to look for a solution? I have searched the forums, but couldn't come up with anything.
Thanks

Is it the OEM keyless entry or an aftermarket one? My aftermarket one will do that once in a while. Some times i can get it from real far and sometimes it wont work unless im 2 feet away. It doesn't really bother me as long as it locks/unlocks....
Have you tried getting a hold of the company that makes yours?

Happens to mine all the time. Sometimes I fear that I'm actually going to have to use the key to unlock the truck
. I'm guessing some sort of interference issue or something. I've thought about replacing the batteries as well, but most of the time my keyless remote will work on the other side of my house through walls and still lock/ unlock the truck so I know it's not a battery issue. Just keep hitting the button til it unlocks. Sucks, but it's always opened sooner or later!

I 10th (or whatever number is next) that motion. It's kinda annoying but also safer in case anyone decides to jump in your truck right as you unlock it remotely from a far. I've gotten into the habit of locking it using the e-lock on the door for some reason tho.
The keyless in my dodge work van does this and other things occasionally. I pull the fuse that does the keyless overnite and it fixes it for several months. The last time they messed up, they would unlock imeadiately after the doors got locked, even with the keys. kinda annoying.
Only time I have had any issues is if I am running my inverter with my laptop running in the truck. That's it. I would leave it all running while getting fuel with the truck off. Go into the store for something and then it wouldn't unlock with the Fob. No biggy, that's what they make keys for...LOL
I've found a couple of things with mine. Don't hold your other keys that are on the keychain to the back of the head of the truck key, it interferes with the signal. Also believe it or not holding it with the key vertical helps too.
put the keys under your chin with the key pointing at your face. Like if you were about to blow your brains out the top of your head. It extends the range quite a bit. Dont know why but it works.. And yes I know this sounds stupid but it once again it works..
You could hang on old coat hanger from your keys. It'll make a great antenna plus if the remote and the keys fail, you can still get in with the coat hanger.
DON'T LAUGH. We had a Grand Prix and I stopped at a little store once with it loaded full of guitars, so I locked it. At that moment, both door locks quit working. It turned out that there was a linkage that got worn and needed adjustment and wouldn't move the lock far enough to unlock. The funniest part was as I was trying to open a door with a coat hanger, a mailman walked by and asked if I locked my keys in. Like a Jeff Foxworthy joke, I was able to hold the keys up and reply with Nope, got'em right here. The look on his face was priceless.

I think that only works if you have Cavity fillings. It works for my wife, but it doesn't work for me...I've never had a cavity, knock on wood.
