Shift Lever Boot Squeak
Shift Lever Boot Squeak
I found an annoying squeak; the boot around the shift lever. It would come and go and sometimes get fairly loud. To fix it I just pushed the boot down a bit and rubbed a candle around the shaft.
But, knowing that it would be an unworthy low-tech solution for some, we can offer the following solution:
The TIC (tongue-in-cheek) Boot:
1. Three layer boot of cape buffalo leather, Gore-Tex and kevlar.
2. Shaft Bushing of oil filled sintered phospher bronze. The ultra temperature range oil was purchased when the SR-71 was decommissoned.
3. Felt bushing of Teflon impregnated wind resistant military weight fleece with a carbon fiber retaining washer.
4. Shift lever of hardened, ground and nitrided 6150 chrome-vanadium steel.
5. In summary it's expensive at $850, but it has Kevlar, carbon fiber, Teflon and Gore-Tex so it's a sure fix :^)
