I am thinking about getting an overhead shelf for my truck. Does anybody have any experience with the shelf it overhead shelf? I want to mount my CB to it, and use it to hole my hunting rifle. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...0045916523045a

 

I do not have that one specifically but have a 2 piece unit, one on each side of my trip computer. It is handy and you could put a small CB in it. I will warn you of the downs; it is further back than it looks(about 8" in front of your face), and my wife and I hit our heads on them frequently(less now that I have had them for a year). The one you show looks to be deeper and higher and if you are very tall you will rip it out in the first week. I still have mine mostly because I keep my badges and parking passes in it otherwise I would remove them as I do not use them for anything else.

 

Reviews are pretty bad for that shelf.

 

Ya I read the reviews. I was hoping somebody was gonna say that they had it and, it worked great, cause I really like the idea of a usable shelf up there. I also really want to mount a BIG cb up there, but I'm not sure I like the idea of just bolting it to the roof (My truck doesn't have the overhead).

 

Well I do not have one in my 08 so I cannot be of help there.

I DO have one in my 90 and will say that I love it...

Of course we all know how much storage those trucks have and that of course makes the shelf a God send.

Quality wise its built very well. I have the full unit.

At 6'0" I have to be careful, I usually hit my head when getting in.

 

I drive a 93 at work that has the overhead shelf in it. In that truck it's great, but all the reviews I've seen on a couple sites, for the newer trucks aren't good.

 

I had one in my 95 Chevy and loved it. Ime 6'2" and it did sit plenty low but not to bad. I dident have any complaints with it.
