Selling my Truck for an SRT-10
Selling my Truck for an SRT-10
I am going to be getting rid of my dually come February next year for the new 2005 crew cab SRT-10. I don't tow anymore since I got rid of my trailer so the upgrade to more power and performance will be nice along with still keeping a truck and the room I need.
Being that most of you guys are previous dodge diesel owners and went from a 2nd Gen to a 3rd Gen how did you go about selling your 2nd Gen, trade it or sell it out right. Here in Indiana if I sell it out right I can't use the selling total and apply it to the sales tax of the new truck unless I trade the sucker in. As we all know you get more bang for your buck when you sell it out right vs. trading, but that does not seem so in this case. Any advice?

Ton4fun,
It all depends on the numbers. Meaning what they will give you on trade and what you would get in a private sale. In my case, I sold my '92 F-350 privately. It was a PAIN. I was asking a little below N.A.D.A. prices and it still took 2 months. Truck was in great shape. I find that when I sell a boat, car, truck etc. that is more than $4,000 dollars the problem is money. Most people don't have the cash. If my Ford was newer it could have been financed by the bank. Either way, do the numbers to figure out what is best for you.
Best Regards,
Alan

I've been lucky on my trades. They play with all the numbers and this there and this here, all in all, when I traded it, the tax savings was more significant then if I sold it to someone. That has been my experience. But, my last two have not been paid off either. When I calculated things, it was in my favor to trade it in. By my trades have always been above what you see on Kelly or Nada. Good Luck.
Good to see that you are moving from one killer truck to another... that SRT-10 should be a lot of fun!
Good luck selling your other one... I've had my 2nd gen (albiet a gasser) for sale now for about 3 1/2 months with no luck at all. A few calls from people that don't know what they want
, a few no shows for test drives that kept me waiting around for nothing...
and one guy who backed out right as we were getting ready to close the deal at the bank!
I've never had such a hard time selling a vehicle in all my life... I think it's partly attributed to the fact that it's a gas guzzler, and nobody wants that with gas prices this high, and also the fact that most people are buying new since the manufacturers make it so easy to get into a new one these days. Hopefully you will have better luck with your Dually Diesel, they seem to draw more serious, not to mention monitarily endowed clientelle... I, on the other hand, wish I would have traded this pig in... been nothing but a P.I.T.A.

It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

How about selling it on e-bay? I sold my car on e-bay and some of my friends have also successfully sold their vehicles there.
I was told order date is not until January of 2005. I hoping to have it around February or March of next year. I think I'm better off trading it in so that I can apply the trade in amount toward the next truck. I think its pretty much a wash no matter how I look at it.
I guess the new ones have the 48RE auto in them. I hope they will still have the stick as an option.

It often depends on your state and how they tax vehicles. In PA it's a straight 6% minus trade.
In Delaware it's 2.75% document fee, minus trade so in DE you could be better off selling outright.
The more you get them to shift the money to the trade..... the more you save.

Don't forget the convenience factor. Yes, do the numbers to see if the trade will wash out the tax bill, but if you come out within a few hundred dollars, you might want to consider the ease of just handing the thing over to the dealer. Might not be worth much to you or it might be worth a lot. From the previous posts of guys having trouble selling their rides, it's definately something to consider.
For me, as a NH resident, I don't pay sales tax, so I went with a private sale. Wasn't in a rush, so I could wait for a serious buyer and make the deal. Saved about ~2K, probably.

I could never go back to a gasser period. Good luck-w-the R/T 10 though. My recommendation-if possible is make it to a few dealers on Dec 31. They get major incentive bonuses for makeing certain and of year numbers and I got my 38K (BS Sticker price for 28K. May be a long shot but thought I'd share. How about asking for a CTD mounted in the srt 10
I too can't see myself getting back into a gasser, and Ive only had my truck for a week and a half. I don't know how I lived without a diesel for so long. The SRT 10 would be fun for a weekend runner!
