Rust Question

I was at the dealer over the weekend with my dad test driving the new 6.7 and I was looking at the new exhaust system comparing it to mine, well when I looked at mine I noticed that my driveshaft was covered in RUST. Is this normal? My truck has 6000 miles on it. On a side note the driveshaft on the new 6.7 trucks are way bigger.

I think they all do that. It's surface rust that shouldn't get much worse. You won't get rid of it unless you sand it all down and paint the driveshaft, but I don't know if that would introduce other (balance) problems.

When I started looking in late 04, every truck I saw here in MA had alot of rust everywhere underneath. I looked under alot of them as I was comparing the 600's with the SO's.

I ended up buying in CT where undercarriages are black. Mine's still black even after two New England winters, although they were mild.

It was that way when I bought my '03 new. My first mod was day 1 - can of black on all metal surfaces under the truck (it's not just the drive shaft that is rusty).
