Running Boards/Nerf Bars?
Running Boards/Nerf Bars?
My wife wants me to put on some running boards or nerf bars on my 2500 QuadCab RAM. Personally I think that the truck looks best w/o any of that stuff, but I may have to give in. Between the two, I like the nerf bars better. Who makes decent ones for the QuadCab RAM? I probabley would want to go w/ stainless so that I would not have to worry about rust. Anyone have pics of their truck nerf bars or running boards?
I found some fully stainless ones (including brackets and bolts) on e-bay for abour 250 including shipping, it was a "buy it now" price. I put them on last night and they fit well and were easy to instal. My wife is 5'2" so they were needed.

If you want the look of clean sides with the conveynience of steps, check out the various retractables. They operate electricly when the door is opened, and tuck up behind/under the frame (?) so they aren't visible otherwise. I saw several local off-roaders with them. They liked how the steps gave easier access, but moved up out of the way for more clearance on the trail.
They're a bit pricey, but consider the Putco Boss Bars (cab only or wheel-to-wheel). They're 4" diameter stainless so they look "beefy" and they're solid as rock. They also take less than an hour to install.

I chose the N-Fab nerfs because they seem to be a good compromise between a step and a nerf and still look good. Also, they have a very high weight rating, but you have to drill to install them on a Dodge.

Mark,
I put my Putco's on immediately after getting my truck because the trubl the wife has getting into it. I like the finish and maintenance is easy; problem for her was solved. Like NJM says 4" tubes seem to look more beefy and they install quickly enough with a ratchet.
But if I had it to do again, it would be boards! The toe room on the ends (to climb inside the bed) needs to be more so toes don't scratch the side, and although I have Husky flaps, sand gets thrown onto the rocker panels between the bar. I recommend you shop more than I did. Perform a search on the Performance/Accessories forum and you’ll find lots of opinions.
I like these pretty well. And you can add-on the additional step for the bed. But like I said, do the search and you'll find some useful info.

I put NASTA stainless steel bars on my truck, which I ordered from from http://www.nerfbarwarehouse.com/
I have been very happy with them. I wanted bars that did not stick out very far from the side of the pickup. Their directions were not the best, but even with poorly written directions it only took an hour to install them.
My best,
Don

E-bay has the Nasta bars, full stainless, for around that $250 price. I paid close to $400 for the same darn nerfs. It was worth it though, the wife is vertically challenged, horizontally narrow, but still had a hard time getting in and out of the truck.
