Rough Ride
Rough Ride
Not sure if this in right section, if you want to move please feel free to do so.
Freind of mine just bought 04 dually and after hooking up a 7500# gooseneck horse trailer the truck rides extremely rough. Almost unbearable. The truck with trailer just barely hits overloads and the trailer bouncing around makes for a horrible ride. He is getting ready to head back east for summer (snow bird) and wants his Ford back cuz it rode better. He is not a happy camper. Any ideas on how to soften the ride? Thanks for any help.

Centered over axle.
Mine rides better with either my stock or living quarters trailer.
I drove it last night and the trailer does not seem to have enough tongue weight to soften the ride. I offered to him to try and put a couple drums of water in bed of truck and try it again.

My 3 horse trailer does this also. The overloads are very stiff. If you do not load it enough to flex them sufficiently, you get a stiff ride over bumps. I also get some banging when it settles back on the overloads. When I get enough money, I will be installing a keldermann 2 stage air ride to eliminate the overload spring problem.
There were some guys on one of the other diesel forum sites talking about this same problem. It seems like some of the gooseneck trailers don't have enough weight to fully engage the overload spring on the 3G 3500s. If I remember right, they were solving some of it by putting larger rubber snubbers on the overload spring so that it engages earlier and with less weight. You might try searching the TDR or Dieselram.com for more information.
I, just this afternoon, installed 2.5" poly urethane stoppers from suspension-energy and they to have taken the bounce down quite a bit. When empty not a problem and when loaded they engage the helpers immediately. Around $68 from local trick trucks shop.
