Road Trip and Oil Change

I bought my 05 CTD this summer while stationed in AK. I leave Sunday for a 5000+ mile road trip back to school in CT. I've got about 2900 miles on the truck right now and I'm debating whether or not to change the oil before the trip. I've got a long way to go on this oil change but I'd kind of like to not bother with it during the trip.

Any suggestions????

Thanks

If it hasn't been changed since you bought it, change it. It will help remove anything left from when they built the engine.

I would also carry an extra fuel filter, good luck!

Change it! I always do the first oil change at 2,500.

Thank you for your service!

Run it like it is, then change it when you get there. If you change it now you will have to change it again when you get there. The owners manual says 7.5k so let it ride.

My dealer gave me free oil changes for a year at every 3000 miles and I've been having it done. I figure they offer this to avoid warranty claims down the road and know their stuff. With diesel engines being built so tight this is a critical time for that engines breakin...hedge your bets!

Original oil? Change it before the trip.

keep the oil. I change mine every 10,000, no problems yet. I have 60,000 miles and counting. The manuel says 7,500 for B and 15,000 for A. Hope that helps.
