road paint

Got home last night and found that yellow paint on the side of the truck. I talked to a few guys for their .02 on how to get it off. Looking for any other ideas.

1st guys said to use kerosene and then buff out the paint.

2nd guy said to use aftermarket paint removers quote from this guy “be careful not to use to much”

Any ideas or help?? There is also some paint on the stock rims but I figured that might be easier to get off with rim cleaner.

Thanks
Bruce

Ronsonol Lighter fluid. It won't hurt the paint if used sparingly, or at least I use it sparingly to remove tar from my White truck.

I painted at several dealers over a 11 year period and I always used a wax and grease remover if the road paint was fresh, if not then you need to step up to laquer thinner. Saturate a rag and have fun (don't get it on any plastic), takes some elbow grease then you have to wax it when you are done. It won't harm the clear coat, as long as you don't leave the rag sitting on the truck.

P.S.---lighter fluid is naptha, which is wax and grease remover.

i've found that bug and tar remover works good, it is in a spray bottle, and contains wax, so when you are done, you're done.

how much paint is on there? I was/am an automotive painter ( before I got a cushy state job) if it is just small spots get automotive laquer thinner and wipe off with a soft cloth. It won't hurt the paint of it's only small spots. just put a little on the cloth and wipe on wipe off. If it's alot than you can still do it but you might need some buffing after if there is any haze. don't get it on the trim if you can avoid it. If you are not sure you belive me call a local auto paint supply store.

If you remember where you picked it up and did not cut through a cone pattern go back take a few pictures and submit a claim to the City.. They should pay no porblem and have it professionally removed...

Happened to me once, used laquer thinner, soft rag, and a plastic razer blade you can get at body shops. Took some time and patience. Good wax job after I got it off, looked like new. Kerry

thanks

Thanks for the info! I can live with some small specs here and there but a few areas are pretty bad so that is the area I will work on. The area I think I got the paint is not real easy to figure out who did the work (city or state). The time I would spend on finding out who/what/why I will just work on getting the paint off.

Again thanks for the help

How do you recommend getting the paint off the plastic fender wells and mudflaps? I have road paint everywhere It's even on the nerf bars and mirror. Talk about a waste of time.

I have used laquer thinner on just about every surface of my trucks to remove paint, a road grime that's tough to get off with regular bug and tar remover. Use it sparingly and you'll be alright.
