Remote start

Do you happen to have any more info on this Valet unit, maybe a website or a model number?? I like the fact it has the capability of delaying the crank procedure to let the grid heaters do their job.
I inquired at the dealer I bought mine from and the mechanic wasn't too keen on the idea of installing the remote start on a Cummins. Though he didn't say it, his face really looked like he had never tried it and wasn't sure if it would work. Did one of you say you DO have the Mopar kit installed and it works well? I assume the Mopar kit doesn't preheat?
I have the Valet 559 remote start and alram system. It is made by a company called Directed Electronics Inc. They make a lot of major brands you'll find in stores. The Viper 791 system is the same thing.
I bought my remote start on the internet and I think it cost me about $250 for everything I needed. That included the system itself with, a two way remote which gives you the status of the alarm and whether or not the vehicle is running, the delay module because, the Cr engines don't have a wait to start wire to tap into, and the key bypass module. The key bypass does not bypass the grey security key and there is no key left in the vehicle. The module just learns the key code and is only activated when the remote start is on. When the alarm is locked or unlocked the factory security key system still works the same.
I first bought the Mopar remote start system but I learned that I would have to carry two remotes because the factory remote for keyless entry would not operate the RS and the RS remote would not operate the door locks. Brilliant design by Dodge engineers.
The Dodge system is much easier to install than the aftermarket one. It took me at least 8 hours to figure it all out.
I would visit this site and search the forums for all the info you'll ever need about Remote start systems

Almost any remote start system has the ability to wait for the glow plugs or grid heater in our case to warm up, either with internal programing or voltage input. On the newer Rams you'd need one with an internal timer or a pulse time relay to tell the remote start to wait for the grid to warm up, sounds expensive but they arent. Also the Sentry key is easily bypassed during remote start with a module that acts as a factory key, when the truck isn't remote started it turns off so your OEM antitheft key is still completely functional. The Mopar starts are simply a basic Code Alarm remote start in a Mopar box with a nicely prepped wire harness, the Mopar start will wait for the grid heater with internal programming. The Mopar unit is simple to install so if your a do it yourselfer and want to try a remote start pay the extra $$, lose a few of the aftermarket options, carry 2 remotes, and buy the Mopar unit. You should have it installed in an hour tops, the instructions are great. If you like bells and whistles, want the truck to run more than 15 minutes and only want to carry one remote for keyless and remote start that you need to go aftermarket. If you don't have some experience with remote start installs you probably shouldn't make a newer Ram your first victim!
I can attest to not making a new Ram your first remote start install
. You need to diode isolate the door trigger wires and uses another special relay for the door locks as well. It was much more difficult than I thought and I have better than average electrical diagnostic skills. An aftermarket electronics installer job is not one I want to do every day. It was all worth it though because the system is very nice.
I also know that I did a better job with all the wiring and connections than a kid at Best Buy would do.

Also you can put a key in for the remote start but there are modules which imitate the key without actually having a key in the truck so nobody can just grab it and take the truck. Only Rams with Gray keys and the newer key with the built in keyless entry need to have the sentry key bypassed.
I had my remote start enabled for a couple of weeks and had to turn it off. I refuse to park in neutral on inclines and I'm just too worried about it starting and killing itself or someone. There are no laws against having them on manuals, contrary to popular opinion. Several shops in town tried to tell me it was but they couldn't tell what law it was or even if it was a state or local law.
The one thing that would solve this problems is if the $#@%^#@ car makers would still include neutral safety switches like they used too. My 1990 Mitsubishi pickup had one as did most cars around that time but for some reason (probably idiot federal laws) new cars don't have neutral safety switches. Without one it is pretty much impossible for the alarm to know neutral.

Sound Waves in the Philadelphia area does remote starters on manual transmission vehicles. Not sure if they've ever done a diesel. They set it up so that you shut off the engine after getting out of the vehicle. If any door is opened, the remote starter won't work. Simple, safe and legal.
My truck came with one that the dealer installed. It's and ultra start. It works wonderful for those cold -30 below moringings. It turns on then waits for a little bit to let the grid heaters run then starts. The wait to start light goes out about 5 seconds before it starts. It also has a turbo timer on it. I can hit a button and it will run for 2 min after i turn it off then it shuts off.
Ok, here it is. I am an authorized DEI dealer. So straight from the horses mouth it came. All of the DEI products are basically the same as far as remote starts are concerned(viper, python, clifford matrix and valet), I use them all. The sentry key can be bypassed temporarilly by using the 555cw part number from DEI. You will not have to break the key open or give up your key. This unit will act as a sentry key, fulling you computer into thinking that there is a key in the ignition.
