I was getting 13-14 mpg with my 03. Changed the fuel filter and air filter and I let off the go pedal a bit, now I'm getting around 16-17 with 33000 miles on it. I averaged a little over 18 on a trip to Houston and back. All hand calc. on a 6spd dually with 4.10s.

Recently took about a 250 mile each way trip with trailer. Averaged just under 20 mpg with unloaded trailer from Carson City and up over Donner Pass- almost 8000 feet. On return run with several thousand pound load on trailer mileasge average mileage dropped to about 16.5.
With no trailer on freeway at reasonable speed ( 60-65) I have seen as high as 25 mpg. My typical average is about 15.9- mostly slow country dirt roads and occasional trip to town. I was hoping for better but still significantly better than my previous truck ( '98 Ram with V 10).
I could never get over 300 miles on a tankful with the V10- with the diesel I am averaging between 460-560 miles per tankful depending on amount of highway or country driving. 34 gallon tank on both trucks.
Wondering if the addition of an aftermarket box like the edge or the Xzilla will increase mileage. Good luck.

Around town mine gets only 13-14, with alot of short stop and go trips. Mine is my daily driver and I only live 4.5 miles to work. Often, the engine doesn't even get to full operating temp. I just got back from a 1200 mile (not pulling) trip. On the way there i hand calculated 19.94....best I have ever got out of it. On the way back it showed about 18. Don't know what caused the difference as the cruise was set on about 75mph each way. I think it was turning right at 2000 rpms or so. Truck has slightly under 15,000 miles on it now and seems to be improving some with more miles.

my truck has 45000 mi and ,retired 2 mo ago, was on the road 110 mi a day work commute and mpg ran 21-22 every tank.
tow a 11000 lb 5er and mpg runs from11.5 on interstate to 13.5 on two lane 55-60 mph. I don't have a city to drive in for mpg. All pencil figures. See sig for truck info...............JIM

Bluedeviltorque,
You will probably find some type of problem on your 555's checkup. The 600's are the ones with the problem fuel mileage.
Undoubtedly some people are just looking at the overhead for mpg's rather than doing a hand calculated average over at least a couple thousand miles. After DC and Cummins installed 6 NEW injectors I continued to complain of low mileage. The dealer did a fuel mileage check of about 140 miles and proclaimed 18.5 mpg! I told them it wasn't capable of 18.5 mpg if it were pushed off a cliff with the engine idling. Shortly after that I documented an 1800 mile empty drive with fuel slips to show 12.63 mpg.
Truck goes to the dealer on this Friday to be checked by Bosch, DC and Cummins "engineers". Six other Cummins are also going to be checked. I'm not the only one with a problem. If nothing is corrected this time I'll try for a new engine. 31k miles and 10 months is more than long enough to correct a problem.

Someone please educate me on this. My milage has gone down some. I recently replaced my air filter with an AFE Drop in. I haven't replaced the fuel filter yet.....was planning on replacing it this weekend.

Thanks again for the feedback, it appears the manual trany trucks are getting in the higher teen's and even into the low 20's for mpg (hwy)....very good!
The 4 speed automatic's are in the low teens 12-15. Not that impressive, like I stated prior my ol 7.3 - 3 speed automatic (no OD) is in this ball park also.
With todays fuel prices Im trying to justify getting another Diesel...for an everyday vehicle that doesn't need to work/tow much anymore this is a tough call.
If the auto trany 6.0 Dodge was in the higher teens that may send me to the dealer w/check in hand.

I just made a round trip from southern Calif. to Albuquerque New Mexico total miles about 1700. I had the cruse control set at 80 MPH 90% of the time. I avg. was 18 MPG.
If I didn't have a heavy foot I could have done better

My mileage, with the TSB, on winter fuel, is about 12 mpg, on my 11-mile stop and stop ( and I mean, stop and stop!) commute from West Chester to Devon, where I work. Bear in mind this is an 8000 lb truck, automatic, 4:10 gears. I had the TSB just about when we switched to winter fuel, so I'm expecting probably around mid 13s-14 when we go back to straight #2. FWIW, my 2001 F350 PSD, 6-speed, SRW, 3:73 gears got mid 14s under these same conditions. This Dodge is a dually, weighs more, and makes 50 more hp, and 75 more ft-lbs. I ain't complainin'!
Highway mileage is REALLY dependent on speed. Cruising at 75, I might get 15. Drop that to 55, and I can get in the 17s. But who drives 55?

I don't understand these guys saying they are get 20 mpg highway driving 65-70 mph. I find that anything over 55mph the mpg goes downhill drastically. I have gotten as high as 23.5 mpg on flat highways cruise set at 55. same highway cruse set at 65 I drop all the way to 17. seems i i can keep rpms under 1700 I get great fuel mileage if I am in a hurry and have to go higher than that I switch the OHC to temperature so i dont't have to see my fuel mileage drop. BTW on a side note the greatest difference I have ever seen on hand calculation and OHC has been 0.2 mpg.
