ratteling from front end
ratteling from front end
When I'm on gravel/sand roads I hear a ratteling from the front end. I used to put it off to gas sloshing in the tank. I'm just ideling along at 5mph or so. I'm concerned it's in relation to that ball joint issue. I've had about 4 oil changes at 12000 miles and the dealer always says the joints get lubed. My tires and suspension are all stock. Are my wheels gonna fall off? What should I be checking and torquing down?
Thanks!
Thanks!
Not sure but one thought would be to jack your frontend up and off the ground and see if you can shake your tires around to see if anything rattles that way. That would at least allow you to check your King Pins to see if they are loose or not.
Well first you need to get the "gas" out of the tank. I have been under mine about a dozen times looking for the noise/rattle that I can feel and hear. I have jacked it up, pushed and pulled and looked at every bolt and bushing and anything else that might be loose. I cant find it. Sometimes I think it is gone and it was just my imagination, but then its back. If you ever find out what it is please let me know.

If your dealer says the balljoints have been lubed at each oil change he is full of poo poo..
Try the same road while you have some pressure on the brake pedal to rule out calipers or pads flopping around.
Lower shock mounts can sometimes give you that problem.
What i find works good for locating noises is to go out with a friend to a bumpy road and do coast tests, get some speed up flip it in neutral and shut off the engine and make sure there is no one else around..lol
Do this from the driver seat and passenger seat noting which is lounder and you can also stick your head out the window if need be just don't start barking or your buddy may never travel with you again. Also try it from the back seat as some noises do travel and can be very deceiving.
Good Luck
