Ramp report
Ramp report
I finally got around to actually using the boat this year and I was a little nervous about how well the six speed would do on a steep wet ramp. My heel-and-toe skills had not been used for a number of years and I really did not want to give everyone at the dock a good laugh. :-[ End result was it could not have been easier. ;D Put right foot on brake, put left foot on clutch, put trans in 1st (using right hand), put left hand on steering wheel. Slowly let out clutch. Lift right foot off of brake when clutch starts to engage and finally, let the CUMMINS worry about the torque needed to pull truck, trailer and boat (15,000+ CVW) up the boat ramp. It could not have been easier. You don't need to hit the "Go" pedal at all. The only people disapointed were the people waiting for this old man to put on a wild show as the truck slowly slipped back into the water.

If any of you are hesitant about getting a 6-sp because of the worry of killing the engine in situations like this, you simply don't need to worry about it. ;D ;D ;D

The Boss Hog
(It was a little warm for boating but . . . ;D)

Re:Ramp report
I find the same thing. I had to back the fiver in on some soft ground and grass two weeks ago. I never touched the go pedal all the way in. Brakes and clutch only. I was a little concerned how it might react trying to jockey around in some site that was sloped - - this set my mind at ease. It even got so soft the duallies were slipping in the wet soft grass. It didn't miss a beat. I am happy. 8) 8)

TickledBob
It's my pot and I'll stir it if I want to. If you're not careful, I'll stir your's as well!

Re:Ramp report
Have discovered that I do not have to feather the go pedal at all for any starts with my six speed. The engine very easily resumes speed as it drops off below normal idle.
So far have only stalled the engine once and that was when I thought it was in neutral and took my foot off the clutch quickly.
Love this Cummins!!!!!
