Question for any NJ members
Give it a shot. Worst thing that will happen is you fail. They don't emissions check them that I know of yet. At least they didn't as of 2006. Usually they'll plug into OBD port and make sure the readings are good and there is no codes. You could always register it over 10000 lbs and not have to worry about inspection too.
Well I passed. I was surprised that they only checked the lights, wipers and brakes. No emissions, fuel cap, OBD Port or wheel bearing/front end test. Starting Jan. 1, 2010 commercial plated vehicles have to be inspected yearly, so I'm good for a year,
I haven't went to inspection yet and don't need to as I'm registered above 10k lbs.
My brother did go to inspection last summer with his truck and they also just checked docs, lights, etc. -- no emission testing done.
Went to inspection station on Rt 70 in Lakewood.
