Question about fuel filters
Question about fuel filters
I dont THINK this has been covered, but what brand of fuel filters are you guys using? And where can I pick one up? AutoZone has one but it is a Deutch (sp). Dont know if there crap or not. Reason I ask is because it is time for an oil change, which I usually do at the dealer. I figured since it was already gonna be there I would get the fuel filter changed. Wrong!. They want $90 dollars to replace it. I did read the thread about the '03 filters and they seem easy to replace, and cant imagine it being $90 worth to get it changed.
Re:Question about fuel filters
MOst of the enthusiasts here are running the Fleetguard line of filters for oil and fuel. They are recommended by Cummins, and mine came with one stock (fuel filter, oil filter was Mopar). I would avoid the AutoZone brand, I used one of their oil filters on my Camaro once... once. Not impressed. Not sure what dealers want for the fuel filters, but I'm sure you'd get off for less $$$ by going with Fleetguard. You can get them from Geno's for a fair price, or directly from Cummins.

Re:Question about fuel filters
Bypass the Autozone crap. I got the 30k filter kit from Geno's which includes a couple of Fleetguard fuel filters. They're inexpensive thru Geno's so don't skimp. My 2 cents worth.
Re:Question about fuel filters
I am going to use the Fleetgaurd Filter from Geno's also. My local Advance Auto Parts carries WIX filters which are pretty good, but i'm going to stick with Fleetgaurd.
Re:Question about fuel filters
My son needing one in a pinch, purchased a NAPA filter at a local outlet. When we opened it, we noticed it was a repackaged Fleetguard complete with logo. It was several dollars more than thru Geno's.

Fuel filter price:
Dodge dealer $46.00
Bought one for my 01.5 and never again.
Napa $14.00 (Looked identical to Mopar)
Genos Fleetguard $12.95 (A little cheaper if purchased in 421 kit)

This is the route I went....as well as many others.

I noticed the price is down to $82. I believe it was $99 when I bought mine...but that may have included shipping.

The difference is because of the special "Hoss PITA" charge.

Re:Question about fuel filters
Hey. I'm not sure I've ever seen those first three words combo'd with Aggie.
Sorry couldn't resist. Ex-Sooner fan...was when they paid their players better. And to stay on topic, fuel filters are good to have.

Re:Question about fuel filters
EX Sooner fan?? What?? You don't like them any more??
I was waiting for someone to come along and tell me that was an oxymoron.....but I guess everyone is a little slow to the punch this week. :

Re:Question about fuel filters
Fleetguard is the only way to go. I am lucky because I have a Cummins dealer on the way to work and can walk up to the parts counter and get what I need. Otherwise Geno's is probably a good bet as well.
Re:Question about fuel filters
Well, I found out yesterday that there is one in my home town. It's a International Dealer, but they have all the parts. Picked up a new filter yesterday and put it in.
