I wouldn't say that. A +5.6 gain is pretty frikken good imo. It may take a while but you should get your money back. That said the more expensive mods aren't worth the money if you trade or sell trucks every 2 or 3 years.

I noticed a slight gain with using Rotella synthetic motor oil. Also a tonneau cover on the bed is supposed to yield a slight increase. The best way is to slow down though.

I was able to get my overhead monitor to read 29MPG today (for a few minutes) when I reset it underway and tucked up close behind a big rig (drafting)@ 55mph

Some of the Prius guys (obsessed with mileage) talk about driving barefooted and attaching something sharp/jagged to the gas pedal to force themselves to accelerate smooth and easy! (they claim it works).

Big tires cost more to move than smaller ones, my H2's with 315's cost me 1-2 mpg.

try a search on scangauge2.its a gadget that measures engine load and throttle position aand many other paramteres to figure out mpgs,it can and will change your driving habits, when i first got it i was obsesed with trying to keep the engine load below 10%on the highway, its also a cool way to check the engine load and throttle position with diferent setttings on tuners and such,i found that the smarty on 7 with my 2ndgen gave me less load and throttle position at 60mph than 9 did,it also records max speed and rpm for the previous day, good way to see what the wifey reved her up too.

On page 6 of the June 2008 Diesel Power Magazine there is a very good article about Dealer warranties and K&N filters . It talks about oil and map sensors . I wish I knew how to post the article but I don't , maybe someone else on here knows how .

I have to agree with the people who are saying drive slow. If I drive my truck under 1800 rpm`s even when accelerating it gets much better mpg. Even driving what I would call normal hurts the mileage. Also when I went to a bigger tire it hurt. Slow down!

I guess it might be jsut me but seems like my mileage went up when i installed the lift and 37's. I cruise at 1600 at 70 and net better mileage then before!! Think i average around 16.8 last tank with 19 gallons used each time.

Still have yet to put a full tank in it due to price in gas.

Same and used to have a 98 dakota, get better mileage now but drive slower and coast to red lights.

Only problem I have 4:10 and I'm already slow, 60mph is 2000rpm for me.

But I get 14.5mpg mid load towing and 16.5 empty, I cannot complain for a tock truck.

I might have to get a Smarty, I can only trade my Adrenaline for 2n gen for it.....

3 mpg improvement by using the Granatelli Big G mileage miser.

Drive for MPG. Slow starts. Keep RPMs below 1800. Get into TC lockup when possible, keep attention half a block ahead to aticipate stop lights, etc and take advantage of coasting. Drive the speed limit.

That's what's helped me.

I keep my RPM to 1600 at every gear. A little slow for some people, but when I reach them at the next light and go through without stoping and they have to start from a dead stop. They get alittle perterbed.

I would say the real problem here is why is diesel fuel $.80 more per gallon than gas? lets see I bought the diesel because I wanted longgevity and because it got about 20% better mpg than a gas moter( ok and because I tow, love the power, the smell, the rattle, the list goes on), so I guess the oil companys cought on to the diesel trend and said.... Gee, if the new diesels get 20% better milage, lets charge them 20% more per gallon...

By the way, I have a K&N( and love it), cat back, modified air intake, bed cover, and advanced timeing, I regularly see 18 mpg in town and 20 hwy.
