Premium Cloth sucks !!!
Have had my '05 less than three weeks and I have already done some minor damage to the cloth seats in the rear. Sat a new bar stool that is partially metal on the rear seat and the weight/heat appears to have partially branded the seat. It is primarily in the center section where they use a "cheaper" cloth than that under where people sit. Yeah I know ... I should have lifted the seat and used the metal tray ... but give me a break. I have also noticed the fabric is brittle ... you can kinda hear it when you rub your hand accross it.
It really annoys me that good things go away over time. My '99 1500 cloth that I traded in on this one was literally bullet proof. After six years and lots of stuff sitting loaded on the seats, the seats look brand new and no no stains. The fabric in the seating areas was also in the center section ... not seating areas around the edges were more carpet like rather than cheapo cloth. So, I didnt pay much attention to the cloth when test driving, etc. as I had it in the back of my head that it should not be a concern to make sure I took a close look at.
I cant even image what the non-premium would be like ...
I guess you cant win as most dont seem to like the quality of the leather either ...
Shouldnt Dodge be using some of these newer synthetic materials anyways .... more like Nissan does, etc. ...
Ok, done venting ...

Yeah same here. I had a 98 and the cloth was tough as nails (and I think it was just the regular cloth) But yeah the new stuff dosn't seem to hold up nearly as good. Seems more like a fuzzy cloth vrs the old stuff that seemed like it was a heavy cloth, woven together. Love it. I also don't like how they do the interior color, then use white pillers and a head liner. I would have loved it if my truck had darker pillars all the way up like my old truck. But hey this truck has a cummins in it, better tranny, and way more power, Sure they have problems, but there won't be a complaint for me (wait one, why do they only come with 610lbs stock???)
runamuk how about the leather upholstery , is it as cheesy as the cloth. does it rip and tear easily? Im pickin up my 05 w/leather in a couple days. What would make the seats more uncomfortable? Ergonomics, or just the fact that they are leather and you stick to them in the heat and such?
Haven't had a single issue with my premium cloth seating, but when Im hauling something in the back seat, I flip em up and use the fold flat floor.. thats why its there.. Even if you don't have it, you can still flip up the back seat and set it down on the floor/storage area.

Main point was they seemed to have gone back in quality cloth on the seats when they had it right years ago ... I am sure they will use the addition of the fold out metal tray also, but come on ... atleast they havent got rid of the cup holders that were also on my '99 1500 ... they are the absolute best I have ever seen
I too had a 98 and the cloth was great!! I liked driving a big couch down the road!!
The leather option on my 05 might as well be vynyl!
The only comfortable thing about these seats is the suede inserts. The seating surface itself is really stiff/hard leather I guess not soft or compliant by any means! They are worse than a new baseball mitt!!
I recently sat in an 05 Magnum and the leather in them was just right go figure
No I do not stick to the seat, no they do not tear easily, they are just not as comfortable as they should be for the price!

no complaints here about my premium cloth. I use and absuse them and they still look brand new,
The only issue I have is that the passenger seat has started to come undone at the seam on the bottom on the seat where it rubs the center console.

I did EXACTLY the same thing to my back seat with a metal lamp. Good news is it finally went away on its own after about 6 months. Like you, I was very upset when it happened and thought the damage was perminent. If you have a steamer it might take the "brand" out of your seat.
