Powerstroke is better at towing then a mighty Cummins?
the cummins is a stronger engine more eaisly hopped up, similar to chevies 350. also the 6bt is everywhere and in everything.
like has been said a billion times, if you could get a ford, with a cummins and a 2000 series allison you would have the best truck.

I had a 99 1/2 Ford P/S for seven years and 240K miles. The truck was good, but I replaced it with the Dodge for the motor and the looks. There were some serious issues with all of the Power strokes to make them run right. Hell I had almost 3K just in the fuel system alone.
I could not be happier with the 5.9, I made the right choice and If you get a PS owner aside in a quiet place, 99% will admit there is only one engine to have.

From: Ohio: Home of the disappointing sports teams
just got back from a dirtbike/quad ride in Idaho a week ago and we took my dodge with five guys fitting comfortably and with a combined weight of 19,800 lbs between truck and trailer we ran lower rpms, less fuel consumption, and less strain on the motor than the 7.3 psd we took last year. Everyone in the truck was amazed at the difference. Both there and back I bet it was discussed 60 times. The psd was stock with stock sized tires and it really struggled a bit with the exact load last year, (actually one less guy and utility quad). My truck was set on 60 hp with the smarty jr. and I am running 35's. Never would I go with a psd. NEVER!!!!!
I used to drive nothing but Superduty's, and have owned a 2000, 2004 and a 2005. I have pulled several 10 to 12K loads with them, as I do with my current truck, and IMO, there is no comparison between the Cummins and the Powerstroke. I'm a Cummins man for life, now!
I'll admit, the Detroits were some crazy machines!!! But if you want to tow or even race, the low end torque can make the difference in a truck whether it be getting the holeshot on the freeway, racing on the strip, etc. I was told by a old semi mechanic that the inline sixes were used because it controlled the higher geared trucks better, like the 18 spds and such. There are many reasons why the inline 6 design is so effective.
I've owned a Duramax and now a Cummins. The company I work for has a few Powerstrokes and a few Duramaxes. I can say with my experiences they all have their pros and cons. I think Chevy and Ford build better trucks, but Dodge has the better drivetrain. I like the idea of a I-6 in my truck for some of the same reasons as the big trucks( simplicity, less parts, linear torque curve, easier to work on with the engine in the truck, ect.) I've thought about giving the Chevy another shot, but I won't even consider the Ford.
