Power Steering Fluid = ATF
Power Steering Fluid = ATF
According to the manual the "Power Steering Fluid" should be filled with Mopar Automatic Transmission Fluid. Is this correct? Also should the fluid in the reservoir have a rotten smell?

Thanks!
Re:Power Steering Fluid = ATF
If thats what the owners manual says, then it could be construed to be correct. For warranty purposes, it might be a good idea to follow DC guidance.

Its been a while since I've sniffed ATF, but I don't recall it supposed to smell rotten. Burnt?

3rd Gen truck? I'm curious, is the PS system not working, low fluid level or making noises? How many miles on it? When you wipe the dipstick on a clean white rag or papertowel, whats it look like? Clear, bright? Silvery?

GL-5 is a good one to sniff.
Re:Power Steering Fluid = ATF
some GM, honda, and audi take their own "special" fluid. BTW if you have an older vehicle with a PS weep at the rack seals John Deere Hydro fluid has some seal swelling junk in it works!!!
Re:Power Steering Fluid = ATF
Called dealership service counter and they said that if that's what the manual says...then use Mopar Auto Trans Fluid. It is just a hair above the low mark - everything seems to work fine just checked it along with everything thing else at my 5000 KM oil change. Maybe like the axles they are filling this as little as possible in the factory... If only they made these trucks in Canada!
Wait a minute they make GM and Ford trucks in Canada - on second thought Mexico is just fine with me!
