powdercoating wheels

i have a set of the stock aluminum wheels that im gonna run at the track with different tires this season. can they be powdercoated black over the aluminum? if not whould taking them to a body shop and having them painted and clearcoated work. thanks

I think they can be powdercoated as long as they are stripped of the clearcoat that is on them from the factory.

Just as eric said. Just have all the finish blasted off before the powder is installed. The powder needs to stick to the actual metal. Most powdercoaters can provide this service (though it may be cheaper to go 2 different places).

Judge, if you get this done.....I'd like to know how it turns out. I am considering getting my stock forged aluminum rims powdercoated black. I want to do it, but I want to see what they look like first. I will prob continue to use the stock center chrome cap.

I had the wheels on my '04 done. Flame red, not black. Cost was about $85 each. That was inside and out. If I were to do it again, I wouldn't do the inside. FYI, the dull silver center caps are plastic, not chrome metal. Plastic can't be powdercoated.

One note on the center cap....most big powdercoaters can usually offer a perfectly matched can a spray paint since they run into things like this a lot. My powdercoater gave me a can for free on my Vette wheels just for asking.
