I have an 03 and got a key cut just so I could open the doors. I was told I have a chip in my key that would prevent this key from starting the car. So me being the curious type I tried it amyway and the truck started right up. So can anyone confirm deny that an 03 has a chip in the key?

 

Was the original key in your pocket? Or in the truck when you started it with the copy?

 

Do you have the black key of the grey key? I think the grey has the immobilizer stuff in it.

 

If the original key is grey, it has a chip. Your chipless key (black) will still start the truck, but it should stall after about 30 seconds. Anyway, that's the way the salesman explained it to me.

 

I don't think I ever had a grey key at all. The Sentry key i thought was an option at the time I bought my truck.

 

I'll try tonight and see if it'll run for more than 30 secs. I always thought if the key didn't have the chip it wouldn't start at all.

 

my blank key [black] will not even start my truck.. just cranks over.. starts right up with the grey one..

 

I dont believe the 03's had the chip'd key's, mine would run fine with my spare that I had made. But then, I only had keyless entry, not an alarm system.

 

Very cut and dry. Grey key = imobilizer Black key = no imobilizer.

So I ran truck with the generic key last night with no issues. Could the fact my grey key is being used in my remote started overwriting the disbale feature? I'm more confused now than before. Thanks for the feedback so far.
