A Pillar Ignition-on Wire
I've installed an Auto Meter transmission temp guage and have it all done EXCEPT the 12v ignition on wire. I have used the SRT Ram A pillar replacement from Genos that can accomodate 1 guage. It has worked out great. The wiring for the guage light goes directly into the dimmer switch. SO, my question is where do I tap an ignition hot wire for the sender power. It's imposssible to get to the cigarette lighter without dash removal nor are the wires even visible from under the dash. Of course, theres a bundle of wires under the dash near the park brake pedal. My question is, is there a wire I could tap in the A pillar bundle of wires for ignition on power. THANKS. PCM
On the 2006 trucks you can pick up a SWITCHED power source in the '100' pin wiring harness located under the dash near the pedals, look for a plastic box, the harness runs parallel to the box - the wire will be PINK with a YELLOW TRACER. That's what is suggested in the install instructions from Diesel Manors install information.

GOOD QUESTION! Surprisingly, all the parts of the dash seem to fit pretty necely and tight. Minimal if no space between parts. I could not even see the back of my cig lighter due to the center console AND it seems to have a plastic panel behind it. So, I opted for the Pink wire with Yellow trace. It will get power with the key on in accessory mode, however.

It sounds worse than it is....on a laramie
1) Remove cupholder insert
2) Remove lower console
3) Remove dash insert just above console
4) pull center dash cover out...gently!
5) Splice wire
6) Replace in reverse order
Like I said...it sounds worse than it is. Also, tapping into the cig lighter means you are accessing a circuit that should be good for ~10-15A. It will be able to handle extra load with no issues.

The pink with yellow tracer is also a high amp circuit like the lighter circuit, so it too will be able to handle etra load. Plus, more convenient. I used a tap that allows me to plug in a spade, easily unplugged if need be. I also added a separate fuse tap in-line to the gauges right at the tap sight. It will blow long before it affects the trucks fusing. I prefer to install things that are easily accessed just in case I need to access them.
