Picked up another rig.......
and I have few quick questions. Truck is an '05 6-speed 4x4 w/ low miles.
1. On the '05+ in-tank lift pumps, are you supposed to hear it run when turing the key to run?
2. Has anyone noticed a small 1/4" hose vented to atmosphere on the top of their fuel tank '05+?.
3. Are all the 5600s slow shifting into gears? I'm thinking about overfilling it a quart or so.
TIA, Eric

1. It only primes, then cuts off while starting
2. Yeah, they have those open vent lines, usually people just put a small fuel filter in it and run a hose up to a safe height and zip tie it
3. IMO theyre slower shifter shifting than a G56, and from what I hear overfilling a quart on pretty much all the manuals quiets down some, and helps shifting when hotter/towing heavy. G56s are kinda clunky when its cold out(winter 30-40*)

10-4 thanks, so can you hear your pump actually priming? Mine is definitely audible and wanted to make sure you are supposed hear it. For some reason I thought these newer ones you couldn't hear prime.

Yeah, you can hear it prime before starting, unless its pretty loud, maybe you have an aftermarket pump under there?Glacier/Fass etc?
The NV5600 is or was used in trucks with 45,000lbs GVW. Its a heavy duty
thing. Someone on this forum once said, you don't shift the 5600 you row it thru the gears. You can't get in a hurry with it.
I have some pictures in my gallery of the one I had in my 2000 3500 torn down. The size of the gears is massive. Torn down at 185,000 miles all was good with the exception of the 3rd gear synchro and the 6th gear race. Had some heat marks in it caused, they said by me holding onto the shifter while driving.

Yep it will take some effort not to place a hand on that thing when it's in 6th. So on these tank vents, I take it that must have been in conjunction with the new in-tank lift pump setup? I don't remember my '04 having one of those.

Theyre just there as a vent for the tank, chrysler just pinched pennies by just leaving them open to the atmosphere, the newer trucks have a cap/vent, but most guys just get some fuel line/filter and mount it out of the way to keep dirt/mud/water out....
