Well,due to the insanely high price of fuel I made the decision to park my truck.At $5.00 a gallon currently here in VT. it was costing me upwards of $120 a week in fuel for my commute.I put the snowmobile in my sig on Craigslist and sold it to pay for a commuter car.I found a VW passat 30V for $6750.It gets 30mpg so a weekly fillup is now less than $60 even on premium.The car should pay for itself over time.I'll just use the truck on week ends to run errands and such.I'm sorry it had to come to this.However,i'm not giving up my truck-the arabs will have to pry it FROM MY COLD DEAD FINGERS-Andy

 

Yeah I'm gonna get rain gear for my bike and keep my truck as my "nice vehicle" and do the bike most days .

 

Yep i did the same thing, i drive 300 miles a week, so i take the ranger to work now!!

 

I was driving about 250-300 miles a week.

Now I bought a 98 Mazda Protege with a 1.5 litre that gets about 34-35 MPG.

I drive the truck about 75-100 miles a week and the car about 150-200 miles a week.

I drive the truck 3 days a week and the car 4 days a week.

Saves money and wear and tear on my truck.

 

Place I work (at least for another year and half) picks up the tab for the bus.. I have to drive 11 miles round trip to catch the bus, but that is 20 miles less than the full round trip to work.. figuring my pre-emissions stock '03 gets about 20 mpg on that 11 miles (mostly open road), it's costing me $2.50 a day rather than $5.50 a day.. rarely moved the truck once I got to work anyway.. now it sits in a shopping center parking lot (and I hope nobody rolls under it and drills the tank for the fuel).. wife drives the Caliber when she finds it necessary to contribute to the economy..

I am in the same boat. It's not quite $5/gal yet her but it is too close. And diving 60 mile/day is very expensive with the truck. I have parked the Ram and now drive my wife's Wrangler. It is not the best on gas, but less expensive than the diesel. We are in the process of selling the Wrangler to get a more economical car.

 

I kinda saw this coming last year and bought a Kawasaki KLR 650 and have put over 6K miles on it in a year. It gets 50 MPG and at 40 miles a day will pay for itself in no time!! I would rather give my money to the Japanes than the oil companies

Last time I filled the truck was Easter weekend for a camping trip. I'm down to 1/8th tank now just from Home Depot runs and such.

I will try to get some Mexican petro soon, but for now it's the Infiniti G20.

 

I bought a little `95 nissan king cab pick-up to drive to work and back....in 6months to a year , my son will have his permit , so he`ll have something to learn to drive with now.

Killed 2 birds with one stone.

 

I have been riding my KTM 950 Adventure around. with the side bags i can even go to the store! but, the wife likes heat, so we have been taking the Rig. costs alot but worth the money to not hear the complaining....

 

I've been lucky so far in that the company I manage pays for my fuel to and from work. This was a verbal agreement with the owner of the company back in 2002 when fuel was much cheaper though. I'm waiting for him to mention it but until he does, I'm just driving as little as possible so the fuel bill isn't so high. I thought about getting a commuter vehicle but I don't like cars and driving a small pickup truck just doesn't work for my compensation issues..

I use my truck a lot for delivering stuff for work plus I make some sales calls on occasion and that's why they pay for my fuel. I just keep running the company properly and keep on making money for them so they don't mess with me too much. Honestly, I make decent scratch being a GM here but if I had to pay the $120 a week it costs just to get too and from work I could not afford to come to work each day. I definitely feel for you guys...

 

I think another step to help with our current fuel crisis is to keep young/new drivers off of the road as long as possible - Like a federal law raising the age limit for DL to 18.

JMHO - take it for what it's worth.

 

I`m not sure how a 16-18 yr old would be able to get to work/school and back home without driving.....

My son is 15 1/2 yrs. old , and sooo far doesn`t have alot of interest in driving ....and I`m O.K. with that
