pacbrake problems

Hi:
I have a 04 ram 3500 diesel w/6 speed manual trans. It has the pacbrake installed and it actuates fine but does not have any effect on the braking. I need to find a parts breakdown so I can figure out how to repair it. I am surmising that the flapper valve inside might have broken loose, or came unhooked or something. If there is any help out there I would appreciate it. Steve

You can go to PacBrakes website and get the install manual or troubleshooting information specific to yourunit/truck in their technical information. The manuals have all the parts numbers in them.

Before you tear too much apart, make sure it is not the pressure switch. Talk to Harold.

I'm familiar with the problem. Assuming the actuator is working properly and opening and closing the brake while the engine is running, the internal blow off valve on the main butterfly valve is likely gone. This is the valve that is responsible for regulating back pressure. There are four pressed in pins that hold the valve in place. A while ago, Pacbrake had a run of PRXB's that may or may not have been assembled properly. These pins were not pressed in properly and would let the valve come off which, in turn, would allow free flow of exhaust and no pressure regualtion....ie, no retarding power and a non functioning brake.

I highly recommend calling Bill Lang at Pacbrake. Assuming this is the problem, he will take care of you and he is well versed in the PRXB and this issue. His and Pacbrake's customer service is second to none.
