p tires?

I got a great deal on some michelin a/t tires. Only problem is they are p not lt rated tires. I don't haul anything but do pull a 5k boat 10 miles on the wekend. I know its not recomended but what can this hurt?

I wouldn't use them. These trucks are way to heavy for P-metric tires. Heck, P-metrics suck even on a 1/2 ton!

P tires should NOT be on a 7000+pound truck.overloaded just with the weight of the truck alone nevermind people or a 5000lb boat.Safety first $$$$$ second.

P=passenger tire. All the manufacturers use them for 1/2 ton OEM. In this age of ambulance chasers,I don't get it.

Not worth the liability if you get into an accident......and mine is 4X4 and a 1 ton, but it weighs 8,000 lbs.

P rated no way, C rated LT's no way, D rated LT's are usually OK if truck not loaded, there is a reason these come with E's.

I understand what you all are saying. I agree a 4wd 1 ton dually is a heavy truck and needs the load range. These tires are about 500 lbs lower in load and I never carry anything but me. Lt tires are designed to be worked all day everyday at full load. Im just trying to see if it's been done and what was the result.

Don't think of this as a weight issue but as a heat issue. P-metrics being 44 psi max the tires are going to run much hotter than a same size LT at 60 psi or more. And it's heat that decreases the life of the tire and also can cause tire failure.

If your not towing or halling heavy i dont see a problem. your not over loading the tires and keep them aired up. it probley rides nicer to with those on it.

The lighter tires will also wear out much faster costing you more in the long run.

Lower the air down on your D's or E's to 44 psi and see how it feels. Then head down the fwy on a hot day, try a few sharp turns. Remember also that the P's are not built as stiff so they will be even softer. They might be fine on the beach due to the bigger footprint.
