Overhead computer got --
Console computer displays dashes in it, instead of temperature, MPG, etc. but still displays the compass direction (the one thing I usually can get on my own anyway). This happened twice now. Hitting reset or any of the buttons does not fix it. Turn truck off and back on, and it is o.k.

Anybody else have this happen ???

Kind of like MS Windows, just had to reboot >

Mine just did that nonsense today as well. Restart fixed it fine ??? There had better not be any water leaking in through the lights or I will have a bird at the dealership. Jeff
Re:Overhead computer got --
mine has done that 3 times now. The first 2 times I re-started the truck, it worked fine, the last time, I didnt notice it untill I was driving down the road. I didnt want to stop just for that, so I kept going. I drove around 1 hour, never came back on its own. I re-started the truck, everything was back to normal again. The Check engine light also flickered on the other day, so I checked it, and SUPRISE!!! its still there

Crank voltage can do some wierd things. I work for an OEM premium sound system supplier, and we recently had guys out in the field spending days cranking the auto maker's executives cars to try to duplicate a reported problem which went away with a restart. They cranked these cars till they started, shut them down and crank again. When the battery died, it was replaced with a fresh one and they cranked again, all day long until it's temporary owner left for home for the day. Out of several thousand cranks, we could only get the problem to happen a few times. It sounds to me like the computer's supply voltage can't hold up, or has poor filtering during the crank cycle, and is affecting the processor logic circuitry. These things should be reported even if they are a annoyance. It's the only way DC knows whats going on.

Re:Overhead computer got --
Regarding intermittant lights on computers etc. The newer vehicles --- incluging Dodge -- use a multiplex system that has been used on airliners for many years. what that means is that many of the various switches in the vehicle (speed control, overhead computers, etc. are really single-wired units that send there signals through a multipex unit that then send signals to the desired units. These singnals are sent through the wires by voltage spikes through that single wire. i.e, each component uses a different voltage. So, if you end up with a spurious emission (EMP) these units can go ery, and the only way to fix the problem is to turn the ignition off, and then on again to reset the signals. It will get worse as years go on and even the brakes will be sort of fly-by-wire, when there will be no connection between the brake pedal and the actual brakes will be only an electrical impulse.

I posted this extact phenomenon a few months ago, shortly after taking delivery of mine. It happened 3 different times, but has not since the severe cold weather has set in. Probably nothing other than coincidence there, though. ???
