Opening below the grille, needs protection

Area I'm reffering to is where the tow hooks are. Anyone know any kind of protection that can be mounted here. The grille or whatever that is in front of the radiator is taking a beating from rocks.

Thanks

I bought one of those screen door guards at ACE HARDWARE. It is a sort of expanded aluminum. The one I bought is painted black, but they also have unpainted ones.
Anyway, it is just the right size to cover the whole condenser (Thats what is in front of the radiator).
There are also some condenser guards available that are made for these trucks, but they cost a little more than mine did.
Hope that is some help.

I have the Cloud Rider stainless grill inserts. They also make pieces for the lower opening you are talking about. It has slits to let air through, but protects the lower rad, etc. You can get it for tow hooks, or without tow hooks, and they look great!

Dodge makes a black plastic piece that goes there and closes it off all the way across. I see them once in a while. Slightly reduced cooling but excellent protection.

The plastic piece is ok for the gassers, but I like to keep it opened to some air flow for the intercooler, etc...

My '03 hemi 1500 had the solid piece. I just "assume" that all the gassers have the solid piece. It's not something that's changed with tow package. Both my hemi and CTD have it.

fanofthewolf,
Where'd you get that guard? Also, how about that headlight trim? Is it an aftermarket item, or homemade? Great mods, nice looking truck...

I put on one of the Kilby guards, and am very happy with it. There is a photo of it in my gallery, along with a link.

Been away for a while, sorry.

"fanofthewolf,
Where'd you get that guard?"
Went to a metal yard and bought a piece of expanded metal. I measured and added about 6 inches all around. They cut it from a scrap piece. I used a drill with a metal cutting disk, the used a wire sander and painted it. I used existing screws to mount it. Had it on for over 20,000 miles-no problems. If I had trusted my measuring. I could have brought home the right size to start with.

"Also, how about that headlight trim? Is it an aftermarket item, or homemade?"
I just happened to have that left over from working on a car my father-n-law gave my son. It is sold by the roll at either advanced auto or auto zone, I imagine several parts stores carry it. It has tape on the back. You have to get it pushed in the groove carefully or it binds, One side could be closer to perfect, really was not a problem.

Great mods, nice looking truck...
Thanks.
