OEM rear speakers out of phase - free qwik fix with pix
basically, at low frequencies, speaker cones act as pistons and try to compress air to create bass.
it's not a HUGE difference...but it is nice, the wife could tell the difference.
the problem is, the rear stock infinity speakers are wired out of phase from the front, and move out while the front speakers are moving in.
you can tell this by rolling the fader to the rear listen for a few notes, and rolling it to the front, the bass will lose it's punch and muddy up.
for a test, run just the front speakers or just the back speakers for a day - they sound good alone - but not when all four are playing
these should walk you through repinning the door connector to restore some lost bass

Q: I've heard that to get the best sound from my speakers, they need to be "in phase" when I hook them up. What does that mean?
A: When your stereo speakers are connected in phase, the drivers of the left and right speaker move in and out at the same time. When they're out of phase, the drivers of the left speaker move in, while those of the right move out. If your speakers have removable grilles, you can pop them off and actually see this.
Stereo speakers should always be connected in phase. Out-of-phase speakers sound "not quite right" — imaging is vague and there isn't as much bass.
To hook up your speakers in phase, just make sure that your positive receiver (or amplifier) terminals are connected to the positive speaker terminals, and your negative receiver terminals are connected to your negative speaker terminals.
It helps to pay attention to the markings on the wire — look for print, a stripe, or a rib that may be molded into the wire's jacket. If you find that your speakers are out of phase, don't worry, it's easy to fix. Just switch the positive and negative leads at one of your speakers (not both).

Or you can have Dodge fix it.

banshee, your TSB is about ONE of the front speakers being out of phase,
if that was the case, you could fade to front, and balance from side to side, and hear the bass diminish when you are in the middle.
but that TSB proves that DC could have put our rear speakers in out of phase.
one reason this is hard to realize, is you have to turn the truck off (the rumbling of the motor masks the stereo) and play a CD to get really deep bass out of the stock electronics, but the speakers will do pretty good.
turn truck off, play CD, fade front to rear a few times, and you can tell.
with mine being phased together, it sounds even better going down the road.
for free, it's a good mod!

My 05 2500 sometimes has a static bumping like sound that comes out of the right front speaker it might do it for like 5 seconds and stop, I wonder if this is the tsb that would fix it? Does anyone else have this trouble with the static sound sometimes?
Replace the speakers.
I don't know about the 06's but on my 05 the 6x9's up front were paper woofers. who the h3ll puts 6x9's up front anyways?!?!
the dash speakers and the rear speakers looked to be better "quality" over the front door speakers, but lets face it you know they are going to go as cheap as humanly possible.
I just finished replacing all 6 speakers. went with some eclipse components up front and eclipse coaxials in the rear all in stock locations. I was skeptical about the tweeters up in the dash locations but it rolls off the windshield quite nicely. best of all its totally stealth.
can't say enough about the "hotbox" center seat replacement subwoofer enclosure I got off ebay. put a 10" JL 10w6v2 up in there and it really pounds.
Over all I am really happy, and the custom dash work I had done to get 2 decks in the stock location turned out better than I had hoped.

I have no idea.
listen to a bass heavy song with the truck off
on just the front speakers for a good bit, noting the phase & coherency of the bass.
then fade it to the rear, and if it gets muddy & messy, it's a problem
then listen on rears for a bit, and fade to front.
if it sounds better when all 4 are playing, you are ok (all the speakers are "compressing" air at the same time)
if it sounds worse when all 4 are playing (front are compressing, rear are decompressin ) it needs the pins swapped.
for side to side phase checks, put fader in middle, and balance side to side slowly.
to me, it takes the stock stereo from 50% bearable to 90% bearable.

i was playing with my 06, and it has a infinity bass link behind the seat in the mega
and i faded it to the front speakers, and just the fronts and the sub was playing, and it was MUCH better, so i guess we should swap the rear speaker phase on the newer trucks too.

i think this is a good free upgrade,
and you can really only tell they are out of phase when the truck is off and you are being quite.
but when you swap them to be in phase, it sounds better with the truck running.
