Nitto Terra Grappler
Nitto Terra Grappler
I just got a new set of the Nitto Terra Grappler's. It seemed ok as i was just driving around town. However when I hooked up to my camper, not that big mind you, just a 26 footer with 1 super slide. I pulled up the road and had a hard time keeping it strait. It was all over the road. Both pulling to the camp spot and back. I took it back and they roatated the tires and adjusted the toe in, still feels the same. Have about 1000 miles on them. Any body else have issues with these tires being all over the road? If so I might ask for my money back. Not worth the white knuckle drive for 2 hrs.

When I bought TGs that's how they felt on my truck too. Felt like I was driving a boat. Got a vibration that I never could balance out (although all my ujoints feel tight). I went back several times immediately after install. I decided to stick it out with these tires. I had to play with psi a lot to find a happy place with ride and handling.
I've read the same thing numerous times from other owners with TGs. I've heard they need a break in. I don't know, maybe I've just gotten used to them over 20k. I've heard it could be from the tread pattern being more aggressive than the stockers Michelins so the tread grabs the road and wants to claw whatever way they're pointed. Maybe, and the steering isn't that great anyway.
I like that they're good ATs (done well off the pavement and even in the slushy snow and ice we got a couple winters ago), but I don't like the drastic driveability change I felt in the truck when I went to them. I probably won't buy them again because they don't feel great.
Mine are load E. Unloaded daily driving I run 62psi front and 58 psi rear.

I had these (E range) on my mega cab and they were great but I did notice when they were new they liked to wonder quite a bit. After a couple thousand miles it went away. I've heard of this with new tires. I put about 30k on them before I sold my truck with probably 8k of that towing our big 5er (about 14k lb loaded). They were great tires.
I had the Terra Grapplers once a few years ago. I only got about 30K miles out of them. They just seemed to wear fast to me. Part of the problem for me may have been bad ball joints but I have since replaced both the ball joints and the tires.
Im about to buy a set of Dura Grapplers now for my next set. I've heard nothing but good things about the DGs and they have a really high load rating.

Took them back to the shop played with pressure couldn't get it to feel right. Paid an extra 100 bones and got the Bigfoot at tires. Seem tons better already. They are both load range E. I will update when I pull camper this weekend.

New tires take a couple of hundred miles to wear off the mold release. There was nothing wrong with those tires. When I got my dura grapplers, it took a couple days of driving around town before they felt solid.
Update, put the camper behind the truck this weekend, and pulled around town and around the freeway. Pulls much better with the different tires. I did play around with the rear airbags and pressure, that might have something to do with the sway on the old set. Surfram- I did put 800 miles on them and they still were all over the place. Not saying that these are bad tires. I just might have got a bad set. I haven't heard of any other bad reviews.
I had to really play with the PSI when i got mine too. EMpyrt (2wd) i'm running about 63 in the front, and about 58 in the rear..
So far, i'm getting really even tire wear and good control. 10k on them..

One thing though, you should be enjoying good fuel economy.
Nitto offers a 305-70-18 in that style that would probably work well in the sand.
